  1. It's a pain in the ass to make my own e-mails that are worthy of reading. I subscribe to John Onofrey's e-mail marketing. Home Hints ENews $300 or so a year and each month all of my contacts get an e-mail that usually has at least a couple of things worth reading. Only hard part is remembering to add my new contacts every so often. I tried writing my own report software in Word because I'm very proficient in using it. Decided I'd rather inspect than program (or, just for Bob, cut and paste stuff, and being proficient with a 'tool.') . HomeGauge solved that problem for me. I tried writing and sending my own newsletter. Decided I'd rather inspect than research and write articles worthy of reading and try to track results. Home Hints ENews solved that problem for me. I'm a LOT happier. Now if I could just find somebody to inspect for me and send the money to me on a Caribbean Island! Here's a sample. Looking at that reminds me I need to upload a new head shot! 2. The only grades I learned in "Bain Spectin Skool" were up here and down there. I also learnt that you wanted the house up here and the water down there!!! It's a wonderful day in Kentucky! I think on here it's known as positive drainage or some such!
  3. Heck with the apologies. Where's the pictures?????????
  4. Yup, Jerry, they do! It's a combined course Spectin skool in the morning - Moonshine makin in the afternoon. Click to Enlarge 33.77 KB
  5. Dang, I scrolled all the way through looking for the pics and couldn't find a one. Personally, I don't think he was sober enough to actually post any, IF he was sober enough to take any. Click to Enlarge 41.06 KB

    Check this out.

You're just too dang picky. That cloth will absorb all the moisture that falls in there and then evaporate it back out before it leaks. Won't it? [:-monkeyd[:-monkeyd[:-monkeyd
  7. Stack effect won't defeat the smell of a dead squirrel. Ask me how I know! -
  8. Kind of looks like you're finding some good ones, but you need to get a real camera. Those blurries don't show much. By the way, you can put more than one photo in a post. You don't have to keep starting a new reply for each picture. Makes your life a little easier.
  9. Did you get up in the attic and look at the ceiling over this area? Like most smells our sense of smell cancels it out after awhile of being exposed to it. It's still there but your nose doesn't notice it as much after a few minutes. Might just be a dead animal that you either need to find and remove or wait for it to dry out. -
  10. Install drains (and drain piping in the attic) at the low spots would likely be most economical.
  11. Imbricating a wood stove or fireplace flue in the wrong direction allows creosote to flow out onto the exterior of the pipe and down on top of the fire box. A bad thing! http://b4uclose.tripod.com/cockamamieph ... k?i=28&s=1 On the other hand, imbrication of furnaces and water heaters is in the opposite direction.
  12. Save your money. Go back to the two holer and a bathtub on the kitchen floor.
  13. My suggestion would be to get a real roofer out there to tear it off and redo it right. Patches are just that, patches. Get it done right and enjoy the life of the material. Incorporate your proper ventilation work while the new roof is being put on. Do YOU want to own the leaking and failure that's just down the road? I'd bet not. -
  14. I agree with Les! Been there - done that. When there's a minus 80 degree wind chill, and you HAVE to be out in it to earn a living, you'll try almost anything to stay warm. Dang, maybe I shoulda just tried welfare and video games.
  15. My life is made of pointing out goofs such as this. Don't work to hard to eliminate your job!
  16. http://www.smarthome.com/_/index.aspx http://www.greenwavereality.com/solutions/ Might also just consider installing a tankless. No usage, no hot water. -
  17. Creating our own weekends is one of the things I like about our gig. I can create a "weekend" in the middle of the week when I want to do something that's normally crowded on most folks weekends. Sunday afternoon inspections aren't that unusual for me around here.
  18. I agree that they're easy to carry around, if handled right, but that little three step one is a lot easier to wrestle up to the second floor, down the hall and into the bedroom closet than the LG 17. To each their own!
  19. After the hatch is back in place, I put the ladder in the A Frame position and repaint each hatch. Part of my excellent customer service! Really, I've never noticed the yellow pads leaving a black skid mark. Click to Enlarge 78.9 KB Click to Enlarge 58.84 KB
  20. Why would you want to wrestle the 21 or the 17 all the way to the attic hatch and back instead of just folding out and extending the 13. Though I've found that with quite a few hatches, I can fold out and extend the 13, use the top of it to lift the hatch enough to rest the ladder. Then climb the ladder, finish removing the hatch, do the attic, climb back down on the ladder, reset the hatch, finish climbing down, and using the top of the ladder to lower the hatch into it's closed position. I seldom carry my 17 into the house, just don't find much of a need for it even with the high ceilinged houses. -
  21. Ah, it's all OK. Chad's got REALLY thick skin, covered with sheep wool.
  22. But how are we to know. Sometimes they're pretty slick about it and the moderator just "deletes" the link. The best would be for the moderator to (as some moderators already do) put in a "spam link deleted" comment when they do so. Then it's easier for the rest of us to recognize that and stop replying.
  23. That's why active participation in a place such as this is a great resource for inspectors. Participating here exposes us to more than just what we normally see. I've been able to speak intelligently about several things over the years that I don't regularly see, just because I saw it on here and was intrigued enough to do a little further research on my own. I just wish more inspectors would take a little time now and then to do the same.
  24. 300 hours of wasted time is still 300 hours of wasted time.
  25. Is it likely to be a panel upgrade with the new electrician trying to square things away but lacking sufficient wire length to do so, thus the pgtails? -
