  1. Shirley y'all got more than beer for stress relief? -
  2. That's a LOT of cold sink to overcome. All those COLD materials are going to take a good long time to heat back up, though I'd think the air temperature might have raised more than that.
  3. Will such wonders never cease? -
  4. I've never seen stranded tin coated copper but then, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I have seen stranded aluminum in older houses from the 50's.
  5. Stress reliever: "Erby: Thank you so much for a wonderful report. I knew I picked a good one when I picked you. I don't have any questions at this time. I believe your report explains it all and with pictures too. I will recommend you whenever I can. You are so thorough. It was a pleasure meeting you and doing business with you. Sincerely, Iris" This was from an 80 year old lady (whose 50 year old son-in-law electrical contractor was there the whole inspection). Some days you gotta love it. Remember: It's a wonderful day. YOU woke up this morning. Some people didn't. Most of us have it better than 98% of people in the word. -
  6. Here's the No Way, Joe. Doesn't look all that much easier to me! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mj0KwzO-Ew -
  7. So, just plate out of particulate matter. Similar to ghosting on the studs. Here's a filthy for you, from the same home. Click to Enlarge 58.86 KB Must have had a "smart" agent. The filter was nice and clean! Fortunately, The Pentax W90 almost always gives me a good shot of the blower fan blades. "The main blower fan blades are covered with crud which impedes the operating efficiency of the unit. This has also usually allowed dust to come in contact with the wet air conditioning coils. Wet plus dust equals mud on the coils equals coils being partially blocked. I can't see the coils to verify this though. I recommend that you have a heating & air conditioning contractor service and clean the unit (to include removal and cleaning of both the fan and the coils)." -
  8. Nah, electric about 7 years old in the hall closet with the heat pump.

  11. Around Kentucky most of the homes have a curb stop AND a shut off "in" in the house. Of course, a lot of the crawl space houses will have the shut off in one front corner of the crawl space and the entrance is, of course, in the rear opposite corner of the home. I can just see some housewife crawling in there to shut off the water. -
  12. A realtor's tongue is NOT a reliable means of determining whether or not a wire is live or dead. They've told so much bull they don't recognize it. Fun when it's live though!
  13. Sounds like your post is full of conflicting exudate to me! NICEIC & IEE say it's okay, don't replace. BCA says: rewiring should be carried out as soon as possible.
  14. What is it with all of us that we take pictures of toilets with the seat up? Is it just that's what we consider "normal"? . -
  15. Not anymore prone there than anywhere else. What makes you think it'll clog more under one sink than under one of two sinks? -
  16. Wonder if those link droppers ever come back to get disappointed when they see their link deleted but their insightful comments left in place.
  17. I've passed your names and contact information to a Coca-Cola employee who is relocating from here to the Bellevue Washington area.
  18. Well, gosh dang it. I wonder how come that frigging garage door guy took money from me claiming to adjust the torsion spring to balance the door. Guess I'm gonna call him and demand my money back! [:-paperba[:-paperba[:-paperba -
  19. Who on here serves the Bellevue Washington area? -
  20. The state of Kentucky has taken (TAKEN) about a quarter of a million dollars out of the home inspectors licensing fees in the last four years since licensing started. Licensing fee here is $250 a year per inspector (350 - 400 in the state). Wouldn't surprise me that they'll do it again. Not much action going to lower the fees or spend the money on real things for inspectors like education or advertising, etc. I tell em, "Yes, I'm licensed by the State of Kentucky to perform home inspections, BUT, if state licensing was such a great thing, neither you nor I would be cursing or ranting about all those state licensed drivers out there on the road. Let's talk about real inspection qualifications." -
  21. I don't mind educating (actually enjoy it) but don't need to waste time with price shoppers. You'd be surprised (well, maybe not) just how many actually answer that they don't know what other questions to ask. -
  22. An idea of what? Try going up the ladder backwards. Gets me into lots of tight spaces. Is that just staples holding the truss members in place? -
  23. Are you asking about price because that's most important to you, or are you just not sure what other questions to ask? Price = high quote & goodbye. Not sure = a discussion about qualifications and inspections.

  25. I'd bet a couple of the old farts are so old they remember using the smoke signals!
