  1. Yep...just did my first job with the new light, and the holster sucks. I'm not near as handy with leather as is Kurt (and not sure if I want to be), but I just ordered a Surefire V70 holster. Seems to be *The One* per the flashlight forums. 24 bucks including shipping is best price I could find online...steep, but I gotsta be comfortable with my light.
  2. Fine.
  3. Customer service be good. No communication, though (email confirmation of receiving, sending back, etc.). 'Course, I'm sure this depends on where ya bought it. Great light, now that it works in both modes. Speaking of both modes... They're real, and they're spectacular!
  4. It may not have been broken, Jerry. I didn't think mine was working at first, either. But there's no definitive click or anything when the brightness is changed. You just have to open the bezel maybe 1/40th of a turn to go from the turbo mode to the lesser one--it's really subtle. If you turn the bezel too far, the LED goes dark. Thanks, John, but no matter what I did or twisted or pulled or rotated or monkeyed-with (flashlight included), zero noticeable change in brightness. You say it's really subtle...do you mean the bezel adjustment, or the change in brightness? Between my wife & I, we couldn't see any change in brightness, whether we were inside, outside, lights on, lights off, etc. I'm thinking a change to *Turbo* mode would be readily apparent...
  5. I'll let ya know how their service dept is...I had to send mine back. No brightness-changing settting (turbo-regular, or vice-versa...just one brightness). Rubs me wrong that I had to pay about $6.50 to mail back to get it repaired or replaced, 'specially since it came out of the box that way.
  6. I got that, and I can't for the life of me get it to automatically back-up every day. I've tried, really. I even went so low as to read the directions. I'm a maroon. I have to manually back-up as often as I think about it...at least once a month minimum, but sure wish it would do it automatically every day, just in case the shtf. Probably would take someone to the range and let them blow off a couple hundred rounds of what's now getting to be quite pricy .45 ACP and some .380 auto if they would stop by sometime and show me how it works...
  7. I do it to put foccacia on the table. (Kurt) Yuppie scum
  8. No arches...too narrow above the doors. How about running/continuing the lower wall stonework over to the right of the overhead doors, either side of the swinging entry door...
  9. Hi Mike... What applicable building standards are you referring to with regards to noise?
  10. When you say "shoot the temps", I'm guessing you used an infra-red thermometer, and maybe you measured the temperature of perhaps a portion of metal heating duct versus the actual air temperature. 'Course, that would not explain why air was coming out of a return.
  11. Rob... The UV light supposedly purifies the septic system's waste water. Go here... http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/62967 ... ption.html
  12. Glad I found someone who knows the rules. Would you mind telling me what the rule is about asbestos removal in Crystal Lake, IL. ? Thanks much.
  13. A good thought...thanks. Perhaps a plumber I don't like. By the by, I got the job! Emailed my customer with a question of how the *other* guy was going to inspect the trap. Guess the other guy didn't have a good answer.
  14. They are really nasty. We use to install them here and there. There is not much to them but they do need to be cleaned out before the inspection. All you're looking at is to make sure the baffles are in tact. Do a Google search for a cut-away of a grease trap. If it's a restaurant do you include fire suppression systems for exhaust hoods and fire suppression systems for the main dining area? The biggest problem with restaurants, IMO, is the fact they have a lot of exhaust and little to no makeup air. The whole facility is usually in a significant negative pressure. The other big are of concern is the electrical system. Almost every restaurant is on a shoestring budget and COD with most suppliers. They invest little if any into the upkeep of the mechanicals. I'm not sure I'd tackle a restaurant, office building yes, restaurant no. I'm a big of a chicken. Thanks Terry. Yeah, make-up air can be a concern, though most I've inspected have had rooftop direct-fired and/or non-direct-fired make-up air units. If not, yup, a concern. And yes, I can't stand the stench of the traps. Don't know why I lost the job unless the other guy is in the pumping business. Likely just my price or personality. Fire-suppression I leave to the local inspector folk. Funny you mention electrical. Speaking of grease, biggest problem I have is getting the greasy electrical panel covers off.
  15. Anybody include these in their restaurant inspections? If so, what do you do? I always thought they needed pumping, then a looking-at, including a camera through the drains. I just lost a potential job 'cause my quote excluded inspecting such. Thanks for any insight.
  16. Well, yeah, but why would a public bathroom open a restaurant in the first place?
  17. Joe, I enjoyed this post. TY for the interesting story. Since I'm from IL, I looked at the seminar details. I really, really was going to sign up until I noticed that only NACHO members get a discount. Truly disappointing...that, and that I won't sign up because of that. (Yeah, I'm one of those ASHI folk.) Still, sounds good, and I'm sure you'll be full.
  18. While we're at it...how about a gas water heater that doesn't now provide as much hot water as it used to? I know it ain't the dip tube. I know it ain't a sediment issue. That's all I know. I suspect the thermostat might be goofy in some way; but what type of goofy, or even if goofy, I isn't sure. Thanks for any help.
  19. When I held the flush-handle down to fully evacuate the tank, I noticed water shooting out the side of the toilet fill-valve, about half-way down the valve stem. Looked goofy, but almost like it was intentional. Problem? Cross-connection problem? Thanks for any insight. In the pict, you can see the water shooting out the left side of the valve stem, again, about half-way down the stem. Click to View 11.72 KB
  20. Mouse? I thought it was a beaver.
  21. I always liked nit-peck.
  22. If the seller is a jerk, I remove quite a few of them.
  23. Why did I watch that!? Was gonna go down & clean my guns, but better wait a bit (at least a week).
  24. I asked this before, but don't think I had a picture before. Is this type of screw okay for hanging kitchen wall cabinets? Sure looks like a long, drywall-type screw lacking the necessary shear strength for such use. Thanks for any insight. Image Insert: 40.68 KB
  25. OK Les. What would you write? I ain't Les, but I would write something along the lines you wrote. "Have a plumber diagnose and eliminate the source or sources of leakage, and have any hidden moisture damage found addressed as/if necessary." Still further evaluation, though; however, I detest that phrase as much as most do. Further investigation, further evaluation...whatever. Worse, in my mind, is the phrase *appears to be*. Had a veteran inspector teaching a classs tell us we should write/report "the water heater appeared to be backdrafting". I suggested that meant he wasn't sure if it was backdrafting. No, he was sure, but said only a qualified heating contractor or some such could/should make that call. Needed further evaluation. I almost puked. I asked him if he reports that a receptacle *appears* to be wired with reversed-polarity. He thought that was different for a goofy reason still only known to him.
