  1. I think Kurt is onto a good idea. Baha'i places of worship are among the most complicated in the world. They have some great buildings.
  2. I likely am at the top of my game at this point in my life. Not physically, but measured by my inspection ability. That said, I quit doing active inspections abt a year ago because I knew how abrasive I had become. I had gotten to a point that I could not force myself to be nice to agents that got "in my way". I still go out every day and shadow the guys, do commercial stuff, legal stuff or work on my apology tour. No regrets, just thankful for the decades of fun making money, doing what I wanted and being in a pioneer position in this business. You gotta eat, but then again you gotta sleep too.

    The Horror

I like the arc of the tube. It is evocative of a spatial variance between the solid form and the ever changing purpose of the mechanism. Something I would love to see in my ex-wife's house.
  4. Rebecca, the photo is not very good. can you post another as an attachment?
  5. I sincerely hope we did not scare him away. This is a classic case. I wonder how long the "mold" person would last with the likes of me. Jim, Jim, Kurt, Tom and nearly any other inspector on this forum! I have never heard of scrapping walls, much less removing spall to get at mold. I use spall only for Jim and Kurt's benefit. To the original post: listen to everyone that posted a reply. Get rid of the crook that sent the sample to the lab and told you there is toxic black mold in your house. I could have told you that from 500 miles away and it would have been free.
  6. Bill, good questions. Thought it might just be me today.
  7. Click to Enlarge 45.33 KB this is my all time favorite image of Blaine and his family. He does not have a hat on and wearing a "skirt". He was truly one of the good ones.
  8. my favorite is from 9:25 to 10:25!
  9. Bill is right, as usual. Seems like he could email me with the right information and I could post it for full credit!
  10. Is that the same for beavers and muskrats?
  11. Rob, likely the furnace is a gun type, so parts are pretty generic and available most anywhere. Oil furnaces are pretty basic, but easily screwed up. Change the filters, nozzle, regulate pressure and air - good to go! If you are not comfortable, then just hire a tech from your oil supply company.
  12. Rob, Steven's question is the right place to start. What are you re-setting? If you are pushing the little reset for the electric motor, it is a quick fix. There are a bunch of different styles of oil furnaces, we are assuming yours is a gun type.
  13. I reviewed two other inspectors reports yesterday. Both had boiler that said to replace Push-matic/Bulldog equipment. One inspection went on to lump them with Zinco and Fed Pacific for immediate action. I have to consider that the balance of report had more than three dozen "refer to professional" comments.
  14. "...castles, made of sand, melt into the sea, eventually..."---Jimi Hendrix Yet another reason I like Baird! He gets me.
  15. Around here the permit alone is $300. I wouldn't change it. We have thousands of push-matic panel here in Michigan.
  16. if the cleats are not flashed, couldn't they hold water at that intersection? Couldn't that water contribute to rot? Maybe even corrode the bolt. Could it fail? Likely I would not have reported them.
  17. That is an amazing amount of damage, to my untrained eyes. Did the young man survive? Yes, with brain damage 'tho. 26yrs old.
  18. This is a real deal ct scan of young man that fell off poorly constructed deck. I can't give you the specifics, but it involves deck screws, drywall screws and all purpose screws. The danger from poorly built decks is real. Click to Enlarge 44.18 KB

    Flint MI

The situation is mostly politics. That being said, there are 7.5% of households with a high lead level in their water. Many water service lines are lead, especially the laterals into houses. A change of water treatment resulted in lead leaching from some of those pipes into the drinking water. 63+- kids have tested for high levels of lead. That is too many. The Flint River was not a contaminated source, rather the water did not have a particular (needed and required) chemical added during treatment that would have kept ph and other corosive levels in check and subsequently not allow lead to leach into the water. Most of what the national media reports is crap, but it only confuses the issue that is really serious. It is not and was not a racial issue. Lansing went thru the same thing times 4 few years ago and has since replaced all lead lines or has them scheduled for change. Residents used lead filters for years (ffree of charge). Don't get the idea I am saying this is not serious. It is serious, but not as reported. We inspect in Flint and live 40miles away. It was and is a money issue. Someone should go to jail, but for the right reasons.
  20. My experience(s) are exposure to raw sewage or aerosols. Also (aerosols) from wet cell battery gas. I would suspect a plant fertilizer in this instance. I am not much on punting to air quality people, but would in this case.
  21. http://www.nashvillescene.com/nashville ... id=1188097 I was there along with the Mold Babes. Hard to believe it was twelve years ago. Not much has changed regarding mold 'tho.

  23. Denny, see what I know - I thought it was one of those strip malls that have discount stores! Outlet Mall.
  24. I am with Joe. There are several comments I would offer, if not intimidated by your admonishment. We inspectors look at sites differently than the public. I think we tend to be a little more comparative. We compare the info with "our" info. That said, I was struck by the internachi stuff and lack of personal information. I dislike sites that pretend to be representative of a multi person company. Your prices seem very low. Your enthusiasm seems high. I could not find anything about your past experience or your present qualifications. How many houses are you prepared to buy back?
