  1. That's funny in an ironic sort of way. We gotta figure out a way to have a "like" button! Chad, save this thread for use in the school room of the library.
  2. Nice. Got if off Facebook. Me thinks it would be a good road trip destination and learning session. I really have slept in many library rooms, old and new!
  3. http://www.nationalmortgagenews.com/new ... 052-1.html This is coming to all of us in the US this summer. It does not have a direct effect on how we work, but it is important that we know as much about the entire home-buying process as possible. Not a quick read, but it is worth the time.
  4. Michael, thank you on his behalf! You gave him hundreds of dollars of advice (that would be US dollars). Combined with the other posts, he sure got a bunch of valuable advice. Now we just have to figure out what his background is so he can reciprocate! Hope he was a chef in his past life!
  5. yer gonna do good at this bidness! Welcome to the tribe.
  6. Here is my website, please be gentle !!! www.advancedpropertyinspectionllc.com Nice photo on first page! Lose the last sentence on your promise. what does the second sentence mean in your promise? Sample report has lost some of its format when opened; spacing. Radon section first sentence is really bad and not complete. Report summary page has really bad/poor grammar and really confusing. Take that page down now and clean it up! Look at the basement section - subject - verb tense. etc. If I did not care about you and your career, I would just blow you off and think here is another character getting into my business. Listen to the guys above - they have decades of experience and a love for this business that will never be matched! Now, go make the changes and ask more questions!
  7. Scott is correct. Get rid of #1,2,5,7,8 and 10. At this time in your life - network with other inspectors. Also, are you any good as an inspector? Can you write? What do you look like. Get your real image on a website and leave the dog and kids with the wife; at home.
  8. I am more with Jim or Kurt. It will require attention, but is so low on my radar that I may not even mention it. I have found myself not "sweating the small stuff" for the past several years. that requires a clear understanding by the client that I am not there to do a maintenance inspection. Expectations. If you start the report with cut the grass, then you better mention the dirty kitchen floor. Stay consistant.
  9. Average 10-12times. There are more attys in my area than anywhere outside of Washington, D.C. We have the best law school, the largest law school and the richest law school within a 75mile radius. Sometimes several times for one file. I am in this bidness for three decades + and never had to testify on my own behalf. Only one deposition for me, but dozens and dozens for others. I was raised in the legal profession and there are lots of attys in my family. My favorite brother in law teaches Contract law at Cooley Law School. Consumer protection is very complex when viewed for home inspection. It is always a crap shoot, but the first thing to do is retain an atty that actually knows something about what we do. Most don't have a clue and subsequently come after us for the "wrong" reasons or cause. The op piece was good, but really does nothing to educate public, or us, about law.
  10. Done! Now if I see it on the women's bathroom wall at McDonalds, you are in trouble!
  11. Every thing around here is white, except my nose and that is red! Jim, nice house!
  12. In most jurisdictions it is common and regular for fees to be paid by a losing party. Many states have consumer protection laws that are little known or used, that can award a multiple of the actual costs. I recover my costs three or four times per year.
  13. Marc, good idea. keep me posted at my other email! tks
  14. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Wa-lah You move a couple of vowels around and Kevin pounces!!
  15. I did not even know what it was!
  16. We have csst running out our kazoo here in Michigan. Nearly every old house with a new furnace or water heater has a section or two. 90% of new construction has it. Five years ago I went to a class and got my "ticket" to buy and install the stuff. Then, voila', it is in every big box store. How many homeowners have pipe dies?
  17. Thanks Nolan. I went around the site for a bit and got frustrated with how poorly done it is. I like learning more about csst, even if it is anecdotal. It ain't over yet.
  18. John, Bock is kinda pricey? I have limited experience, but an oil fired one was $2400.
  19. Do you think it cost less for the amount of water you use? BTW, we are one step ahead of a cream can on the wood stove!
  20. Hey David, Why do you like the Rinnai? I can't seem to wrap my wallet around one. Two forty gal in series is nearly perfect for family and only $900 +-.
  21. I have AO Smith tanks. At home I have two 50's that are 14yrs old and have been flawless. I also have couple of 40's that are 18+yrs old at office. I suspect the same unit(s) has several other labels. For me, I want a unit that is no trouble at all. AO Smith would be my choice. PS: Like Kurt we see equal amounts of Rheem/Rudd and AO Smith.
  22. Kurt remember when we were at WATTS? There was a concern from them, but I can't recall what. We never see radiant with tankless.
  23. Jim is right. It is the only level we use. We have some freebie small ones for the dog and pony show.
  24. Looks like it makes sense. Thanks Tim!
  25. I saw one a few days ago, but the box was square not hex (?). It looks like a good system. got a photo? I don't think we have seen that.
