  2. With out seeing the attic view, my guess would be that they did not have room enough to run a large return pipe/duct so they had to run a bunch of little pipes to get the right amount of return air for the unit.
  3. Y'all have me thinking this might have been something like you are talking about. I did not know what it is. It is out behind an older house. It is about 2 tiles deep. Click to Enlarge 32.48 KB
  4. A lot of the old coal fireplaces around here have been change to gas logs. I have seen coal shoots where the coal was sent down to the basement for the boiler in older homes in my area.
  5. I read the comments, Well said Mike
  6. My needs are little compared to the folks that lost everything. The power company is working hard to get the power back up and running. I live about a mile from the schools and they got our power back on last night. My heart goes out to the ones that are in need
  7. I put it on a post-it slip and stuck it on the wall of the woman's rest room down at the bowling alley. Hope that helps![] Les, do you have a room that I can use when I come to see them?[:-dev3][]

  10. Well the good news is I am OK. There is a lot of folks here that is not. No power or phones and it took out one of the phone tower for the cell phones. Small one about half mile above. I live in the upper part of the county, so I was 15 miles away from the main one. I still haven't heard from my friends in the area it hit. I am at McDonald's drinking coffee and checking the site along with emailing a report. I got to find a place where I can print it.

  17. before you leave. When walking around the exterior of the house before i left I found water coming out of the bricks. The area is right behind the master bathroom sinks. No sign of a leak in the house Click to Enlarge 120.59 KB Click to Enlarge 109.73 KB Click to Enlarge 117.54 KB
  18. I have found where they did not cut out for the ridge vent on homes that been re-roofed. The roofer had sold them on the item that the ridge vent was need. Most of the houses had gable end vents that was doing the job needed. I did one house that was two year old and the felt was not cut out. There was a gas leak at one of the furnaces.
  19. All I can tell you is what was going on on the ones I found. The three light came from where the home owner had tie the neutral into a hot wire and the dim light came where the neutral was being switched. Of course there could other reasons this happens.
  20. I am one of the ones that does re-inspections. I require a list of agreed repairs and a copy of the receipts of the work done. I charge half of the inspection fee or $200, which ever is greater. I have been ask how I wanted it fixed and I tell them properly. If they ask how do you fix it properly, I tell them if their contractor does not know how to fix it properly they need to get some one else.
  21. To me the schooling is a step on the stairs of becoming an inspector. The inspector chooses if its a step going up the stairs or if it is a step going down the stairs. If I had only followed what the school I when to I would be going down the stairs. But I wanted to learn more an found places like this one to help me become an better inspector which I still work on every day.
  22. In my younger days I tried the adds on the folders and a few other items. The folder where given out at closing. (I found this out later) The agents did not even have my name on their list. All the printer is doing is getting some folks to pay for the cost of the folders
  23. If you all fell like it post them on here on IJ for all of us to review and make comments. Your report could make some of us look differently at own reports and make changes. I have posted my report on here before and there was a time we could sent Mike a report and he would put it up as an unknown. This way the ones that wanted to make comments about the report could based on the report not the person.
  24. It looks like you have more issues than the scorched neutrals. You also have ground wires on the neutral bus bar and two neutrals under one screw.
