Bain
The house in the photos was next to one I checked out this morning. I don't know what the brick structure is resting upon, and don't know if a roof is slated for installation. The thing is currently housing a pet crate and some loose bricks, but maybe it's designed to hold . . . firewood? I can't quite figure out why someone would go to so much trouble--partially blocking a window in the process--to erect a brick thingy in front of their house. I think it was Andy Warhol who said, "You can't legislate good taste." Click to Enlarge 51.81 KB Click to Enlarge 55.94 KB

Bain
Pet mausoleum. Maybe. I assume something like this conveys when the house is sold. But what happens to Rover's remains once the new owners take possession?
gtblum
I'll bet it's been there for a hundred years or so, and the local historical society made them build the house around it.

Mike Lamb
Could be a grotto in the making for a religious icon. Catholics are known to do such things.

Don't you know the Blessed Virgin is to displayed in an up ended and half buried bath tub?[:-dev3] Click to Enlarge 123.4 KB
Mike Lamb
Oh, God. The buried bathtub grotto! I believe that has it's origin from the Italian Renaissance?
