RickSab
Here's another I could use your opinions on. This house has two interesting valleys. One on the front, and another in the middle. The middle one has several squares of roof dumping in it. Oh, the gutters on the dormer are open at the back at the bottom of that valley. I included a long shot of the house from the rear to give you an idea how much roof there is. Thanks for your ideas on this one. Brandon Whitmore
The gutters shedding water onto the main roof plane is a common practice around here. The gutter should have a half moon cut in it so debris can not plug up the drainage point of the gutter.
Brandon Whitmore
The valleys should not be completely flat and should be detailed as a flat roof system...... at least around my area. Just an opinion-- that is a crappy roof design.
John Dirks Jr
The pictures you posted don't show it for sure but it looks like you may have what is called "dead" valleys. Look at the third picture down in the link below. It shows a way of dealing with dead valleys. http://www.softplan.com/v13features_roof.htm
kurt
Definitely a really crappy roof plan. Putting a saddle in the middle of the mess might help, but it's hard to tell without seeing it up close and personal. At this point, about all anyone could do to "improve" the situation would be to install WR Grace everywhere in and around the "valley". Personally, I call them pans, as in, a place that collects stuff.

drcr
Hard to tell much from those pics. Those valleys might have plenty of pitch to them and be roofed with a modified bitumin/flat roof material. I don't see a problem.
Eric B
I think if you caulk up the valley it'll be ok. Deadend gutters - bad news. Image Insert: 127.09 KB
