  1. Home built in 1963. This "knob" appeaars to be from that era, didn't actually do anything. Click to Enlarge 20.83 KB
  2. Do any of the experienced Homegauge user sell their template? I recently began using homegauage, and while the stock one is alright, I want better.
  3. I have never seen that stuff Jim.
  4. I always call it out when I find it in the crawl space area. I typically include a photo of the warning statement that says "don't leave paper facing exposed", in the report.
  5. As I was told many years ago, it's been there for quite some time and nothing has happened. Leave it be. If it really is asbestos, it is pretty much fireproof, and then the concern comes when the facing has to be removed. The staining appears to be from previous leak(s) rather than heat.
  6. Thanks Steven. I did just that. Here is what I stated; "In my opinion, the attic scuttle is not the correct size. Because the furnace is located in the attic cavity, the opening/scuttle, needs to be large enough to allow for removal of the equipment should something go wrong. By my measurements, the scuttle is 23.5" x 21.5" in size. Quote: R807.1 Attic access. (2006 IRC) Buildings with combustible ceiling or roof construction shall have an attic access opening to attic areas that exceed 30 square feet (2.8 m2) and have a vertical height of 30 inches (762 mm) or more. The rough-framed opening shall not be less than 22 inches by 30 inches (559 mm by 762 mm) and shall be located in a hallway or other readily accessible location. A 30-inch (762mm) minimum unobstructed headroom in the attic space shall be provided at some point above the access opening. See Section M1305.1.3 for access requirements where mechanical equipment is located in attic."
  7. What say you. I inspected a new contruction home. HE furnace located in the attic. The scuttle opening measured 23.5" x 21.5". Seems small to me. Click to Enlarge 30.22 KB Click to Enlarge 28.18 KB
  8. Rather than a website, I would check with a local attorney that practices in real Estate law in your State. If you are a member of ASHI, see if the local chapter has a version that they have had worked up by a local attorney.
  9. Has anyone had experience with or heard good/bad feedback on CHIC liquid vinyl system? Ran in to someone selling this product at out local home show. I have LP siding(circa 2007) and know it will need to be repainted this summer. Just curious.
  10. All I can say is that I have trained a few of the inspectors that graduated from the AHIT school(Renton), and all of them have dropped it. All I can say, is that, I saw a copy of a finished report and wasn't impressed. I am sure that 50% of that was due to the newbie filling it out, but, still didn't care for the report look/layout.
  11. I found this article which mentions the Challenger breaker being manufactured by the same group that made the Stab Lok breakers. http://www.bankselectricllc.com/Panel_U ... %20PDF.pdf
  12. I am fairly certain, that the same company that made the FPE Stab Lok breakers, also made the Challenger breakers. Either way, I am with Marc, write it up and recommend it be replaced.
  13. So the folks at FLIR have come out with a thermal device for use with smart phones. Interesting. FLIR for Smart Phone
  14. Is there a humidifier in the home?
  15. What year of house and what type of windows?
  16. Is there an easy way to differentiate between CertainTeed and Hardi?
  17. Since Knob & Tube is a two wire system, it does not have a "ground", be sure to use the two prong outlet(s).
  18. They appear pretty normal to me. It's an architectural type shingle that always gives off that appearance. No gutters in WI?
  19. Todd, I am not sure that you will get a lot of responses, as most on this forum, are not involved in the environmental inspection or abatement industry. There are a few post's that cover quite a bit of differing opinions on the topic however.
  20. Try this Erby... http://upchucky.com/OldiesTimeMachine.html
  21. I am in WA State and have a steam shower. No openable window above the door.
  22. Awwww how cute. A nick supporter visiting TIJ.
  23. The house was built in 1908. Has been completely cosmetically updated. When I took the panel cover off, I was surprised to find branch aluminum wiring along with Romex. Kaiser Aluminum but all of the other branch aluminum wiring I have seen was "K-Flex". The camera flash glare limits the view of the model, but it's definitely not "K Flex". Does it matter what the model is? Click to Enlarge 86.62 KB Click to Enlarge 108.78 KB
