  1. I know this is an old thread. I'm looking at how to accept credit cards. I want to add a "pay by credit card" thingie to my website. I've looked at the pay pal site and it seems fine. My question for those that have a paypal merchant account is: can your customers enter any payment amount or do they have to select from a preset amount / menue? Because fees vary a lot depending xyz. There is no Costco around here and I don't care to join sams club. What other options are there for accepting credit cards that you recommend or don't recommend. Thanks
  2. Thanks Everyone.
  3. It would be a pre-fab fiberglass. I don't know how many pieces. The question came up with some people I know who are refabing a house. One of them saw on HGTV that a plastic barrier is needed between the shower and outside wall or else there would be a mold problem. There has been some discussion and some think the plastic would cause more of a problem, some think the kraft paper would be fine. Why would you use a cement backer board?
  4. House is maybe 50 years old, wood panel exterior siding, 2x4 framed exterior walls. A new shower surround is being installed against an exterior wall. Fiberglass batt insulation will be installed in the wall cavity with kraft paper facing the inside of the house and the new surround placed over that. Should a 4mil plastic barrier be placed over the studs behind the shower?
  5. Actually, Mark Perry's comment was beneath a post by Kurt in the NEC thread, so I assumed--incorrectly--that "Kerby" was some sort of nickname for Kurt. Mark was actually referring to Erby, whose post was on the preceding page, but misspelled his name. Therefore I blame my mistake on Mark, since it's my policy to take responsibility for very little at all. Geezzz, I wish you would stop talking with my wife!

Wow Kerby - that is a really long comment.
  7. Thanks for taking the time to share Kevin - that is good info. I have been thinking about the FLIR B50 for some time, which runs around $6k. Maybe bext summer..... By the way - nice websites!
  8. Kevin, What camera do you use and are you happy with it or do you wish you had purchased something different?
  9. Ditto, I have to swap them out after every inspection. Mine are 1700mAH, so I guess I need more "mAh", whatever that is. I think the key is the 2500mAh, also not every picture is a flash.
  10. Ditto, I have to swap them out after every inspection.
  11. I like what the judge wrote: "An inspector invites reliance by the very nature of the advice that is given," wrote the judge. "Plainly, if prospective home purchasers did not believe that they could secure meaningful and reliable advice about the home they were considering purchasing, there would be no reason for them to retain an inspector to inspect that home."
  12. An hour ago it did not work, now it does.
  13. I like the name of his company. "Bob the Inspector Inc."
  14. Hi Jim, That sure is interesting and I'm surprised I had not leaned that earlier in my life. I was looking at an old furnace the other day (1976), and I was just assuming, based on its age, and the huge flame it produced, it was very inefficient. On the data plate there was the following info: INPUT: 125,000 BTU/HR BONNET CAPACITY: 100,000 BTU / HR MINIMUM INPUT: 87,000 BTU / HR So since 100,000 is 80% of 125,000 then the unit is in fact 80 afue, is that how it works?
  15. When I started my business I went to a lawyer and he sugested a Sub S corp, which we set up. I believe as far as protecting ones assests an LLC and a sub S corp are about the same, but they have different tax pro / cons. For example my company will pay up to $xxxx of medical bills for its employes (that would be me) each year.
  16. I'd guess it has something to do with th water softner.
  17. Yes, If you cannot put a wire nut inside a panel where can you put one?
  18. Well smarter people then me will come along with a response, but until that happens: here are my two cents: I don't know how they work, but they are typically attached to the main lug, but from what I understand they can be attached anywhere in the main panel. The fact that one of the wires is disconnected is not correct and I would certainly call for an electrician to install it correctly or remove it completly.
  19. I almost never see any problems with Anderson windows and have certaily never seen bowed or collapsed glass. Do you have an article or another source document on this problem?
  20. For items that are common in many house: decks, garbage disposals, sump pumps, but are not present in the house I am reporting on I indicate they are not present. My report format is a mixture of narrative and check boxes. So if there is no fireplace I just put “n/aâ€
  21. Yea Really Kudos on the lengthy reply.
  22. I've heard they can only live a short time without food. I guess this little guy got trapped in the garage. To bad cyber baby was not with me, he would have loved to pose with this bird. [:-eyebrow Click to Enlarge 20.59 KB
  23. I have seen these from the road before, but never up close. This was on the house next door to a recent inspection. I had always thought they were old solar panels, possible a passive solar heating system or just a crazy sky light. Anyway from the roof next door it looks like there is insulation on the inside that has self destructed. Click to Enlarge 54.35 KB Click to Enlarge 24.68 KB Click to Enlarge 26.73 KB
  24. From what I hear banks don’t pay much to have a home winterized ($40 - $50) and they seem to get what they pay for. This past Spring I cannot count the number of homes that had broken pipes when they were de-winterized.
