  1. The unit should operate within the same temp differentials on either side. Real exterior temp would decide which was best to test. If one sides ok the other should be also. If there is an electric backup heat then that gets tested separately.
  2. Yeah, This one had great draft but can't see the condition of the liner and as much as I wanted to pull the vent apart, I didn't, and told them to pay the chimney specialist to do a full inspection.
  3. Oil fired boiler 20 + yrs Vent originally to interior chimney wall at basement center. Someone wanted a large family room. Boiler room got smaller and vent would have run across the shelving unless put behind and they didn't want that. Vent was sent out directly behind the boiler under the basemnent window underground about 24 inches then turning right towards the rear of the home and chimney and then I presume inderted into the chimney through the side. all still underground. I don't know what they used as the only visble is the single wall pipe going out through the block wall. Code states must exit the home to the atmosphere which puts the Kiebash on it but is there something else out there that would have permitted it. This is a well built and renovated 2 mil home. Not some hillbilly abode. I can't see that the town would have missed it but. Sorry no pics. Took 100 and missed that one, my stupid!
  4. I am having trouble finding a code that prohibits instalation of an exhaust vent pipe underground. I do not know thge material used. But it is a modification of the original typical system. I know it's got to be wrong but I needd ze papers Thanks, Wayne
  5. Brokers, Blame it on the brokers.

  11. Architects draw pictures. Engineers make homes stand the test of time. He needs an engineer.
  12. You got the Asbestos right? Looks like they figured the brick extension off the sill would create a drip edge. Wrong. The water runs right back to the sill plate. Was the brick original equipment or added?
  13. That's actually a good idea! I have seen many cases where the radon system was not working due to water filling up the hole.easy install too.
  14. so is there black pipe of copper pipe coming into the house. Is there a jet pump? whats up there? Now you have us all wondering.
  15. Is the house on a well or city water. Well water with a low PH can do that although I have never seen it THAT purple. Is that a crawl space. If so condensation from ground moisture has somethjing in it that is causing the staining. If it is a crawl then those lines should be insulated, Yes?
  16. most condos will have a shut off for the water heater and water lines as two separate valves just above the water heater.
  17. why don't you do a test. I think it depends on how long it stays wet. Getting wet and drying rapidly will not allow enough time for mold 6to grow. In your neck ofr the woods, breathing on drywall will probably promote mold growth. Put a sample in a dry room of your home. Spray it with water. Wait 1 week. What do you see. Nothing. Same test, Spray once a day for 2 days and so on. Don't breath on it. HAHA
  18. If you are looking at a well tank then the house has a well or has a booster system added to increase flow for rain style shower heads or large tubs. Typically a booster system uses what is called a jet pump, ( google it) It sits next to the well tank. Typically a well pump will be at the bottom of the well and cannot be seen without hauling up 100 or so feet of platic pipe. So which is it.?
  19. Moisture. Hot or cold, Moisture
  20. That's a Trombone trap, Can'tbelieve you never saw one before
  21. Got a digital camera by any chance?
  22. It really looks to me that the lower foundation was poured, or mixed I should say because, it looks like it was mixed in a potable cment mixer, the mix was poor with too much sand and gravel. Then the block was added on top. The resulting joint has leaked over the years and caused the poured concrete to deteriorate. Adding a bonding agent and resurfacing may help as far as appearance but you may have to attack the exterior below grade to actually stop water from entering. I would get a lisenced mason over there to take a look.
  23. Can you take some more photos from a wider angle so we can see the whole corner or wall of the basement. It's hard to tell from the photos exactly what was done. Block was added on top of a poured foundation but can't see enoough of the whole room.
  24. what's your point? [:-bigeyes
