  1. Junk... but there is probably a NFVA rating on it somewhere... Americans just love cheap-stuff I guess... it's never ending...
  2. Short story: 1940 house expanded into huge capt-of-industry castle. I inspect while workers are still completing many items, including HVAC, etc. Could not test HVAC. 6 zones of Cooling/Heating (Forced-Air/gas, electric split ducted systems). 1 year later.. Capt's wife calls me with dire problem: "We are going crazy trying to control the cooling/heating.. too hot, too cold," I tell them to turn all zones off nite before I go and let me go through house. I survey all units, name them, name all t-stats, compressors, furnaces. Then I just turn one on... and go find the furnace/compressor. They had miswired the entire place... little bedroom thermostats were connected to systems meant to condition huge family room and vice versa..
  3. It's a concrete-lined tank ... .. many were up here in Boston area. "Stonesteel".. they did last quite a long time... and most are all gone.. they weigh too much!
  4. To me, that could be from 1967-1974 or so.. the 'industrial design' of the burner, etc..
  5. Get into what Jim said.. you'll get used to it...
  6. Our friends had a 30 yr vintage pole transformer 'go south' in their neighborhood to their dismay (and their neighbors).. Surge protector was installed later.. I have one on my house ... I can't abide me old Fender amp getting fried due to this..
  7. Print that, frame it and name the photo "The Last Time"... you be too old for that kind of malarkey.. !!
  8. Common sense.. down the toilet... I see stuff like this more and more.. HVAC air-handlers totally-boxed-in, etc...
  9. It is a good gig for variety, meeting people, change of scenery.. Download Attachment: IMG_2201.JPG 88.59 KB
  10. How many SF? How long did it take?
  11. You know, it's nice to know that morons are at work all over the US... ..
  12. I agree with BK. Looks like a stucco system that is made to look like bricks.. at least from this end.... Structural brick does not crack like that.. stucco does though..
  13. Sounds like it needs to be removed... 'shoddy installation'..
  14. Perhaps an IR thermography survey should be done as part of this correction/evaluation Kurt. I've been recommending such for similar issues and these 'where are the ice-dam leak area' issues..
  15. Punt.. that's what I do... P.E.
  16. Mike, when I find general stuff, I call it a 'system'.. "The stairset system at the front.. " "The unorthodox system of framing at the attic pull-down ladder unit" (instead of ceiling joists cut, not headered properly, blah blah) "The support system in the crawl space has numerous unorthodox elements present .. " "The equipment ground connection system in the panel is improper and contrary to what the panel manufacturer clearly indicates is proper... "
  17. Not seen a modern light frame building, but that's a 'common purlin' method of running framing...
  18. Thanks David!
  19. Rodents for sure.. I see this all the time....
  20. Just saw one the other day...
  21. Dat's what I figured.. Thanks fellerz..
  22. I found this in the front corner of a 1900's garage.. Yeah, I called it out and did all the due diligence stuff.. My question is, is this just for lifting lubricants or for gasoline or kerosene??? Any thoughts? You Kibbels out there?? Download Attachment: IMG_2267.JPG 124.21 KB
  23. Solved.. it's a design-issue ("thanks Whirlpool") Dopes.. anyways, the guy showed up with the new 'novel idea' system to fix this. (It was indeed a clogged 'outlet connection'.. The new novel idea? A GD P-trap.. what idiots..
