  1. Happy New Year to the TIJ Forum: Here's a pretty good link for hydronic heating questions: http://www.emersonswan.com/resources/video.html

  3. Bingo and bingo!!
  4. Roofers regularly factor-in sheathing repairs in their estimates to some degree during re-roofing.. "That can be done during the re-roofing job as is the usual practice"..
  5. Not 1, not 2, not 3.. FOUR chain-saws...

  7. It could have been relatively damp (the material) when installed, no? They have all sorts of warnings about pre-installation storage for that stuff in regards to this...
  8. If ye like these things: www.bostongroundwater.org Makes for interesting perusing..
  9. I ran into a new house yesterday where most TR (Tamper Resistant) outlets were really, really difficult as far as inserting a receptacle tester.. I know how they work and such and such.. but these were unusually difficult... any thoughts?
  10. www.rjkenney.com These guys are experts.. We are fortunate to have them in the hood out here..
  11. Just quote WH mfgr specs... and leave it at that... I gotta say though, I once (once in 20 yrs) had a pressure-relief valve 'go off' (on a boiler) while I was standing there... kind of a heads-up..for me and a learning experience.. it's a very nasty, short burst of 'hotness' that could A) Scald you (including your eyes) and B) startle the *#$t out of you.. I could see this discharge arcing and doing a 'bit of a whip' because of the angular flexible path provided... 'not a great idea'.. (but skip the Newtonian physics responses...) Just put the copper tube on it like 99.99% of plumbers on this planet do 'and you'll be better off.. " In other words.. for crying out loud Mr or Mrs/Ms/Whatever you are.Plumber ... 'just do your job... "!
  12. The letter is missing the IR scan they took of it...
  13. Actually, I was already in the basement when this was turned-on upstairs by the realtor... it was a huge basement and it was at the far-end and we were working the front-r corner and didn't notice it until after a few minutes of operation.. .. ..the other thing was the vent connector.. it had a softball-sized hole in it and was barely connected to the brick chimney..
  14. I didn't touch it ... you kidding.. I 'shut it down' and did all the due-diligence stuff.. This was a great house though... you guys would have been impressed.. .shingle colonial, unique, 2 family, leaded glass, unique floor plan, two garages.. .. we were hacking our asses off due to the insidious fuel oil exhaust.. Man.. it is brutal..
  15. I turned heat on.. to find smoke in the basement... Oy Download Attachment: IMG_0840.JPG 113.74 KB One of those 'for cryin' out loud.. ' moments in home inspection..
  16. That is 'up there'.. but I've seen worse. My favorite was the 'hoarder' who when I went through her house (stacked to ceiling with books, newpapers, magazines and such, with tiny 'aisles' through the maze of crap) and then went into the kitchen... she said.. "I'm having trouble with my kitchen drain.. " I looked under the sink respectfully and said.. "Ma'am.. that is because .... YOU HAVE NO DRAIN.. " (Tailpiece just went to a mishmash of nothing and rot to the basement).. The buyers referred her to the local Board of Health.. for her own safety.. her attic had the "King of all Raccoon infestations" going on..
  17. Did you leave a gap below the sill over the board??

  25. Looks like a knurled-knob at the far-right end with a spring under it... like you'd see on a kerosene container for an old in-kitchen kerosene stove.. maybe those discs are part of a multi-stage filter??
