  1. OUCH... Crazily-cool looking car.. reminds me of Japanese Sci-fi/mystery movies of that era.. Godzilla.. and those 'puppet' sci-fi movies.. Must have stunned your butt to see that.. so it goes..
  2. Lower flashing, apron flashing, etc..
  3. yep...
  4. I just went over the very-worst wash-board extreme outer coastal road in my life out here on Nantucket... 'extreme-radical' ups and downs.. I made it with my E-150 though... the Transit Connect would have bottomed out... Nantucket is awash with workers.. conga lines of pickups/vans and lumber trucks out here.. crazy.. Doing some property-condition type inspections on houses out here and on Cape Cod... a week of coastal inspection fun... Corrosion-city out here..
  5. Be careful.. factor in the dead-weight of any materials.. "Quiet rock" is a product used by recording and rehearsal studios.. I did a double-layer of drywall with resilient channel and it cut down the highs very, very well... (not the LF)..
  6. This work never ceases to amaze me... This work was done in 1976... Click to Enlarge 41.52 KB
  7. That is great.. I often wonder why they spelled dining wrong.. maybe some 'workbook' that was written in the 1980's for study or something..? I'm waiting for a guy to spell 'PIG" wrong...
  8. That 1st bomb went off right in front of one of our commercial clients.. Lenscrafters... weird.. stinks..
  9. Mike... The one time I heard someone do one as a result of my constant recommendations to do so, it was $500 .. .it takes time, men, etc.. There really is a need for a 'third-party chimney inspection service' system out there... The masonry/chimney guys are often too tied-up to do them...
  10. What side of the house is that? The angle of the crack indicates the 'movement-away' of the lower-l area from the upper-R is 'down near the lower-left' someplace..Need more photos..
  11. I see these often and usually remark "good like tracing a circuit problem or a leak' ...
  12. Intuitively, it seems kind of wrong Mike, but it is better that exhaust condensate drip back and not 'out' the seams.. so.. Also, the draft of a center-located chimney with a liner is pretty dang strong... you might be able to detect a suction at those joints due to the strength of the vertical liner's draft.. How tall was the house.. ? The taller, the stronger the draft..
  13. Another reason to consider wearing goggles.. really..
  14. I didn't even bother to read the casting for the name... "Junkers' would apply...
  15. A de-nuded-of-insulation old cast iron pancake boiler... Still heating the house... formerly coal, now oil-fired... Gravity distribution... No circulator.. We see these often, but they usually are still 'snow-men'.. .. In a 1756 house.. Click to Enlarge 41.59 KB
  16. again.. "But why.. ??" Knowing 'why' is more important that 'chapter and verse'..
  17. Absolutely no idea.. but 'could be wiring'....
  18. Check for the Chinese drywall thing.. (Other copper items... corrosion, etc)..
  19. I might discount a bit.. or not... I could have been somewhere else making a full fee... your time is valuable... It's OK to say, "I'm sorry, but I still have to charge you the full fee.. " On the other hand... it depends...
  20. Doug: Posted this to our national staff of inspectors.. ASHI New England also spread the word to entire membership.. good luck with this!
  21. No.. it was mis-aligned behind the deadfront... as were some others..
  22. Sometimes, it's easy.. This was a breaker that did not fit into the panel... Click to Enlarge 23.57 KB And that reminds me, how many times do YOU see "Dining" spelled "D-I-N-N-I-N-G" ? I'd say 45% of the time around Boston..
  23. Never seen that code-scheme... I wipe the material with my fingers to get a sense of degradation... Check seam-condition, flashing penetrations, etc.. etc.. Hard to tell the 'age' based on the condition in that photo... but could be 1997 date of mgfr..
  24. I did an empty house once... no light bulbs in the unfinished basement fixtures... huge basement.. total darkness.. and STANK... I came upon a pile of Dog-*&it about 4 feet high in one area.. "Inspection Over".. Unreal..
  25. Amen to BK advice.. I have gone thru that exercise and the bottom line is that the local 'expert' lab here says.. "we can sample the pants out of the area and material in question.. but we still will not say 'there is no asbestos.. even if we find 'none'.." That has lead to total removal in these cases... and replacement with new insulation..
