  1. You sure about that Richard? A home that old was originally built with a 2-wire system. I know that the typical three light tester will not trip a 2-wire GFCI outlet however the outlet will trip by using its internal test button. If it has a bootleg ground it is still a 2-wire system (neutral hooked over to the ground). I've never run into a GFCI breaker or outlet that was on a false ground circuit so I've never had the opportunity to test first hand.
  2. Although rather costly I always use this tool on older homes with 3-prong outlets - http://www.professionalequipment.com/id ... t-testers/ as it will call out a false ground. Only reason I picked Professional Equipment was the ease in finding the tool. I'm sure they can be found elsewhere at a better price.
  3. How old is the house Mark? Is it a true grounded system (bootleg grounds ruled out)? If the outlet has reversed polaity those three light testers will show it when first plugged in.
  4. You're a good friend John.
  5. To clarify a bit… The reason I started Radon testing was initially due to demand, that and the fact that I thought it would add to the bottom line. After going through initial training for licensing though I gained a much better insight into the “inner workingsâ€
  6. Hi Terry! As consulting scientists, it’s our job. People ask us to measure various physical entities for a fee and we do so. As such, in accordance with good scientific and Industrial Hygiene practices and procedures, prior to performing the work, our policy is to establish parameters known as Data Quality Objectives (DQOs). DQOs describe the error, accuracy and precision of the parameters being measured. The DQOs also describe the limitations of the data, the application of the data, confidence, comparability and completeness of the data. All this is done before we collect any kind of sample or perform any kind of test. The DQOs also describe the ability of the testing to answer the hypothesis that is being challenged. This is standard for all our work, regardless of whether we are measuring pyrethrin exposures in an home, or exposures to Class IV lasers in a factory, or alpha radiation at a radium site. You're a pisser Caoimhín. You ever think of running for office? You would do well. From a previous post: Whenever I perform residential EMF tests, the client MUST sign a waiver acknowledging that I told them the test results are COMPLETELY uninterpretable, and meaningless, and cannot be used for any reason, and the testing is a complete waste of their money. You would be surprised how many people sign the waiver. The technical rebuttal: People ask us to measure various physical entities for a fee and we do so. You're a funny guy Caoimhín - actually I like you. A snifter of Cognac and a few Montecristo Edmundo's would make for an entertaining evening.
  7. Step 1: Learn the proper name of building materials. You're a bad man.
  8. Caoimhín, I have to ask... If you feel that: test results are COMPLETELY uninterpretable, and meaningless, and cannot be used for any reason, and the testing is a complete waste of their money. and they have to sign a waiver stating that they know it is a waste of their money and the results are meaningless then why do you take their money and offer this service? Do you also test for Radon? Just curious. Bump as Caoimhín might have missed the post.

  10. The problem with the new 410 machines is that they operate at a much higher pressures and make a hell of a racket. Carrier has some marketing lingo in which they describe their efforts to mask the noise as a feature and benefit. You may have heard some "urban legend" Marc.
  11. Almost looks like a ballast with two heat sinks.
  12. My new Carrier has a cover on it as well. It's there for sound deadening.
  13. Looks like the work of someone that found installing copper a bit beyond their skill set.
  14. I have to ask Phillip; how are your observations received? I must say that things are, well.. a little different down there. Do you get the stink eye very often?
  15. omg.... that one takes the cake. The is no hope for humanity - we're all sunk. Think I'll have an early sundowner.
  16. I think you're right Mark. Unusual to run into the stuff up here.
  17. Thanks Gary. Is exterior plywood typically used?

  22. Looks like a Goodman to me []
  23. Hi Steve: Make sure the file name doesn't have any characters like *-, etc. Best to keep it simple like drain.jpg
