  1. Split-face block aren't patterned with a form. It's manufactured by "splitting" a large block into 2 blocks leaving 2 rough faces.

  3. Concrete blocks were being formed on-site with a hand powered press by the mid 1880s. No concrete blocks from the 19th century look anything like those in the picture. They're likely from the teens through 20s.
  4. Only the white insulated wires can be re-identified as ungrounded conductors when part of a cable. Not permitted in conduit. Wires with green insulation can not be used for ungrounded or grounded conductors.
  5. I've seen them on farms and commercial yards. It's a remotely operated relay switch for "street lights" up on poles.
  6. Not termites. It's from the larvae of one of the wood boring beetles. The exact type depends on the tree (red oak borer, locust borer, ash borer, etc.) Bark beetles attack several types of trees.
  7. Did any of your multiple professionals use an air sampler pump? They need to take multiple samples from documented locations and test the samples with potassium iodide. This will identify the area of highest chlorine concentration. Then, surfaces in that area are swab tested with potassium iodide on starch strips to detect the residual chlorine. If using the correct equipment and processes, the only way these professionals could be "stumped" is if it's not really chlorine causing the odor.
  8. According to the tests by the 3 hour trained experts, most homes are "mold infested'. The remaining are then "homes with mold". I live in a house with mold. I'm in mold infested buildings every day. I constantly breathe in mold spores outdoors too. Can I blame every health issue on mold? I'm not saying that mold can't harm a very small amount of folks but show us the studies that these 3 examples of health issues are solely due to mold in their homes. I'll bet there's a whole lot of folks that never get to the root cause of their illness, once they've convinced themselves some spots on a wall caused everything.
  9. Could there have been a window AC unit nearby, before central was installed? I've seen quite a few hose-condensate drains connected to downspouts. It's usually because the window unit drains onto something and makes a mess.
  10. Find a very experienced home inspector that hasn't fallen for all the mold hype. A quality scanning type moisture meter and an IR camera would be helpful tools for this situation. I wouldn't loose any sleep over the mold test results. They don't really provide any useful information, unless it was ordered by a medical professional analyzing a specific health issue.
  11. Looks like she's a rental property inspector for a property management co. My first thought is the ex-tenants yanked out an appliance without shutting off the gas. I've been hired twice to inspect buildings that were suspected of being booby-trapped.
  12. Reminds me of inspecting the Wissinoming and Logan sections of Phila in the 80s.
  13. One of the mounts for an antenna or mount for the cable to the antenna. I think the rubber just covers threads.
  14. Is the white part porcelain?

  16. Look for a second outlet in the garage or another outdoor outlet that has the GFCI device.
  17. Hi Mark Do you think he's even PA compliant for home inspections? The County DA might not even know the specifics of our obscure little law.

  19. An email to Fenix Lighting US www.fenixlighting.com resulted in a quick reply. I was only asked for my mailing address and 2 replacement switches arrived 3 days later. No warranty check, no charge and no shipping fee. I'm ordering the TK75 for inspecting large barns, warehouses and factories.
  20. It doesn't really look like excessive bleed from overheating. I suspect that this is a cold-adhesive application. They spread the adhesive way beyond the lap.
  21. Thanks Brandon. I've done all the steps on 2 TK11s, a TK12 and the TK15 and also soaked the switches in alcohol, which gives about another week. I will contact the linked supplier to see about replacements if another source doesn't follow through. I received an email today from a fella at www.fenixlighting.com. He said he has switches and all he needs is my mailing address. No mention of cost or shipping charge.
  22. Anyone ever find a source for the TK tail cap switches? All have lasted about 2 years. Soaking the switches in alcohol buys only about a week.
  23. The safety sensors are not aligned - or a leaf or a spider web is blocking the beam. It's constantly trying to reverse as if an object interrupted the beam. I think waiting after crossing the beam may be an odd coincidence. It's always been quicker and easier to fix it than write it.
  24. Are there anti-siphon vacuum breakers on the supplies to the irrigation system? (there should be 2 as you indicated one zone is supplied before the p-reg) They can be damaged when they blow out the lines incorrectly for winterization. The failure of the device (or lack of) can cause weird stuff to happen. Have them shut off the supplies to the irrigation for a while and see if there's any change.
  25. 1st page: Add space to the text cell in the table. The text is jammed against the building pic. Add lotsa pics. Instructor's pics w/ bios.
