  1. They were obviously too cheap to spring for a truly hideous solution: Click to Enlarge 16.56 KB
  2. My generator powers everything in the house except the dishwasher, electric dryer and electric range. When the power is out, I turn the oven on and set the temperature to 200 degrees. When the power comes back on, the oven heats up and when it hits 200, it gives a few beeps that can be heard in most areas of the house.
  3. This is in the 1927 Lehigh Valley Railroad passenger station in Easton, PA. It's a shame the fixture is gone. Click to Enlarge 118.13 KB

  5. In my area, it employed a lot of Italian Americans, too.
  6. That is really cool. I looked at Uninal.net ("The best place to piss away your time on the internet") and they didn't have it. That would make a great submission.
  7. At least it wasn't a condescending unit.
  8. I see that configuration used with through the wall AC and heat pump units. If it says 30 amp, then it's 30 amp, but going by this chart, the size of the hots and shape of the ground make it look like it's 15 amp. Maybe the chart is wrong. Click to Enlarge 39.63 KB

  10. Then what about storm doors? They always swing outward and they are ubiquitous here in eastern PA, where we get a lot of snow.
  11. I had been very happy with Square until a month or two ago, when out of the blue, I got an email from Square containing customer feedback from a client. WTF? I found out that Square had implemented a a new program called Square Feedback. If you request a receipt be mailed to the buyer, along with it, Square sends a customer feedback questionnaire to the buyer. Square never asked me to opt in to this, nor did they even notify me they were going to do it. I was incensed. To make matters worse, you can't go online to opt out. I had to email customer service to get them to stop doing it.

  13. I thought I'd share this gem from yesterday. It kind of took my breath away. This addition is about the same size as the original 1866 brick structure it's tacked onto. I have no idea what the huge amount of unused (and unusable) space on the second floor was intended for. The only finished space is two rooms on the first floor. yes, they are finished and had been in use for several years. I can't believe whoever did this was working from plans. He had to be just making it up as he went along. 14. A, there are enough ideas online to keep you reading for days. Google is a wonderful tool. Also, be aware that first impressions matter and punctuation is important.
  15. Seriously? I'm close to 300 pounds and I get in some really tight places. I'll admit, at times I do get 'I can't believe you did that' looks from buyers. This one was a split level where the only access to the lower attic was from the upper attic. I'm glad the buyer wasn't there to see me do it. I'm sure it wasn't pretty. 16. That question was asked two years ago, Robert. https://www.inspectorsjournal.com/forum ... C_ID=15961 I googled it, and got four results, all going back to the ASHI School ad. I think it's safe to assume that it's just a made-up term. Makes you wonder what else the ASHI School just makes up.
  17. It seems that ASHI is ramping up the 'Mold is Gold" philosophy. Unfortunately, the unwitting ASHI School attendees are the pot o' gold. From the September ASHI First Thing newsletter, details about a new affiliate membership add-on: This coming year (Oct. 1, 2014 - Sept. 30, 2015) will be offering an add-on to your membership level. 18. Thank you, guys.
  19. I thought I'd share a very lucky shot of the World Trade Center 'Tribute in Light' I took last night with the point-and-shoot Pentax Optio WG-2 I use for inspections. I hadn't planned on photographing it. In fact, I didn't even expect to see it. I was walking down the street, and suddenly, there it was. I looked for something to brace the camera against, but anything I could find altered the composure. I took several shots. This one had the least amount of blur. I was really lucky with the timing of the cloud being illuminated by the lights on the spire of One World Trade Center. The photo is unretouched. Download Attachment: 1 117.jpg 704.9 KB

  21. This morning, the buyer decided to play with his Blade quadcopter. I was looking forward to seeing what it could do and the video and stills it could take, but he crashed it within 30 seconds. I think I'll be getting one when things slow down and I have time to devote to the learning curve. Click to Enlarge 53.38 KB
  22. He was drunk as a skunk. They finally removed the car three days ago. It wasn't his, he 'borrowed it' http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/phillip ... cart_river
  23. I shot this video earlier today, about 10 hours after an SUV ran into the corner of the building, causing part of the front wall to collapse. Some time ago, the masonry wall at the ground floor was removed and two I-beams were added to support the remaining wall. It looks like the vehicle took out the support under the outer edge of one of the I-beams, it came down, and all of the brick it had been supporting came down too. A lot of bricks surrounding the SUV were removed before I got there. [utube] " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="344">

  25. Why do you ask? Are you expecting a deluge tomorrow? When I heard the forecast Monday, I went to to block tomorrow off my schedule, but just before I got to it, a 1:30 got booked. At least the house has a nice big, old-fashioned front porch. That makes working in heavy rain a bit more bearable, especially when arriving at the house. I mostly use a cheap vinyl poncho and a baseball cap. Sometimes I just use a big umbrella, especially if it's humid and I don't feel like sweating.
