    Flying High

Congrats! Seems scouting has faded away somewhat since I was a kid. Glad to hear it is still going strong! What he has learned will carry him forward int he years to come.
  2. We are seeing a lot more of the acrylic over a cementitous base, rather than over insulation. This two coat system is quicker than the "pure stucco's" three coat. This document (from the EIFS Council of Canada) could be useful for a EIFS situation, if this were that, but it isn't. It suggests that: "Include [13] mm minimum expansion joint between EIFS and adjacent materials." http://www.eifscouncil.org/images/07240 ... cation.pdf
  3. This sounds like the basis for great boilerplate. Brick veneer\stucco\roofing\stairwell is not a simple stack of bricks, layer of cement, waterproof covering\bunch of treads and risers, but a system. If the components that are necessary for the to function as intended are not present, then there is the possibility for and major problems that are extremely expensive to repair.
  4. Marrette - It's a brand name.
  5. 2000 Carrier 120,000 BTU mid effciency furnace. Airconditioning system above heat exchanger leaked and I found rusting of the heat exchanger. Obviously rust is bad, how much is 'observe' bad and how much is 'replace now' bad? Click to Enlarge 48.75 KB Click to Enlarge 20.32 KB Want to see part of why it leaked? 6. What is the pole with the sharpened point?and black cord/wire?
  7. Hausdok put in arrows! []
  8. I think Jim highlighted the problem of the need for a panel to support the counter top. Removing a base unit allows room for the dishwasher, but there may not be sufficient counter top length for for the dishwasher and the panel. It's probably Orange Store Code to not install in this configuration as there is extra time and material involved.
  9. hmmm.... Although there is a certain logic to its easier to redo if/when the installer screws up, I hope that we are still able to find and employ people who take pride in what they do. It always comes down to workmanship...and having seen some of the local installers, and installations, of the ilk (who are no longer in business), I hope for better.
  10. Mer-Krete Systems has a list of Exterior Detail Drawings here: http://www.merkrete.com/merkrete/clr-dt-menu.htm I particularly like the the "Exterior Deck Over Occupied Space - DUAL MEMBRANE SYSTEM" http://www.merkrete.com/merkrete/ExteriorDeck-35.htm
  11. Yup, association requirement, but have seen very few members who advertise it.
  12. Exposes, hotel rooms, or UV lights? [] (Couldn't resist..)
  13. Subscription to the magazine is not free, but free registration allows users access to web content. Have to agree with you Mike, just because it is common practice doesn't make it right. I like to tell clients, "If I was having a house built I would expect to see best practice, both in materials and workmanship." It might not rain that much up here, but to say it never rains that much up here is just tempting fate.
  14. “I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.â€
  15. I stand corrected.[:-paperba But probably still a smartass....when I am not being a dumbass.
  16. Given that a weatherhead goes on top of a mast... I am not sure what good it would do![:-dev3]
  17. I thought the whole reason we had code was to address stupid![:-tong2]
  18. Good call Robert, Black vent pipe on one side, loooooong flexible bathroom exhaust pipe on the other. Surrounded by 8-10 inches of blow in cellulose insulation. I was impressed by the workmanship, as I suppose this might provide the required clearance, but this is a pretty significant hole in the insulation. I can envision a future where more insulation is added, either as part of a whole house improvement, or as a result of condensation in the bucket during the winter if someone does not use the heat-lamp while showering.
  19. As I crawled the attic, I thought I saw a bucket.... "All right, I can post a Bubba pic!" Evidence of bubba stopping a leak?" As I get closer I see that the bucket is upside down. I pause thinking "This is over the ensuite bathroom, shouldn't there be an enclosure for the heat lamp?" A little closer and I see that there is an electrical box fastened to the side of the 14 qt galvanized steel pail, BX cable and cable clamps, even has a cable clamp where the cable enters the bucket..... "No?! Seriously?" Download Attachment: small_bucket.jpg 470.97 KB
  20. Is that a chunk of galvanized pipe after the pressure reducing valve? Is that water 'system' hanging from the drain line? How is all 'that' supported?
  21. Certainly going to last longer than that fascia!
  22. Ahh... but how did it get in there? And how many qualified electricians will take to fill in the hole/crack/missing knockout?
  23. Dear John..... You offended everyone here a year ago, and then recently over at IN and now you come to do it here again? Is there an ignore function built into this board that someone can point out for me?
  24. Is there any possibility that the dirt came in through the venting? The peak sees to be beneath the duct. Winds outside picking up particles that are drawn into the house?
