  1. Here in Alberta a trap beneath the floor is not permissible. "The Plumbing Industry is reminded that fixture traps must be readily accessible for servicing and inspection, without requiring the removal of any obstacles or the use of a portable ladder. They must also be located to avoid odour complaints. The installation of a trap under the floor to serve a lavatory, a sink or a laundry tray does not meet the intent or requirements of the National Plumbing Code of Canada (NPC) 2010" Full text here: http://www.municipalaffairs.alberta.ca/ ... -07-09.pdf
  2. That spacing looks a little wide to me. I suppose it does depend on the size of the fastener as well. Download Attachment: deck ledgers.pdf 330.74 KB
  3. You guys have Interac down there? I've had numerous clients pay directly with online bank to bank transfers via Interac. Given that my bank is 30 miles east and most of my jobs are west, it saves me having to take a cheque to the bank. I send out the invoice a day or two before and I'm paid before I start my vehicle! Same with Paypal for people who want to use their creditcard.
  4. I attended 'til the first break at a performance he put on in Calgary. Once he said lie to the perspective client to get the gig, I knew I had to get home and have a shower. I'll admit I went with pre-conceived notion and wasn't disappointed.
  5. Looks like it may have been a paper presented in 2005. http://www.lightningsafetyalliance.com/ ... ing%20.pdf
  6. Brightened my morning!
  7. They do look like breakers, I was thinking of the power bars of a few years ago with the little button that popped up. There was no response when the button was pushed. No noise, no interruption of pwer that I could tell with a $3 tester. I lack the resources to 'load test' or otherwise overload the outlet. And I know better than to start playing with 40 year old outlets. [:-graduat
  8. Should have posted this shot as well. I am pretty sure they were more than simple push button switches. Local inspectors have seen them on rare occasions. Usually with a cover that has the brandname imprinted... I wasn't that lucky. Click to Enlarge 49 KB
  9. Looking for a little help to get me started on researching this odd outlet (with built in breakers?) found in a 1969 home. Click to Enlarge 33.07 KB
  10. How goes the planning on that bookstore?
  11. I read: 'TOP GRATE - 3/8" ABOVE COUNTERTOP' ....couldn't figure it out so went to the Viking site: http://www.vikingrange.com/MEDIA_Custom ... F20543.pdf ? This range may be installed directly adjacent to existing 36? (91.4 cm) high base cabinets. IMPORTANT: The side trim MUST be 3/8? (.95 cm) above the adjacent base cabinet countertop. This can be accomplished by raising the unit using the adjustment spindles on the legs They also sell optional trim peices... http://www.vikingrange.com/MEDIA_Custom ... _F1226.pdf Hope that helps!
  12. An alternative theory as to why there might be a diverter is: to utilize grey water for their garden, but divert cleaning chemicals to the sewer system.
  13. Was all that funky electrical discovered when the drywall was removed, or is that a consequence of the exploaration?
  14. Oh, damn... spoke to soon. ASHI Education Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the American Society of Home Inspectors ("ASHI"). http://www.theashischool.com/content/ab ... n-inc.aspx and at the bottom of the page "The ASHI School is a division of ASHI Education, Inc. ".
  15. What is a 'bump up" learning environment? So I am curious, are we sure that the ASHISchool is part of ASHI? I went to the ASHI website and looked up their education links - none of which are to the ASHISchool and I don't see the ASHI logo anywhere on the ASHISchool site.
  16. Looks beautiful. Though I'll bet the painter cursed.
  17. Japan has been doing the handwashing above the tank trick for decades. Not much room for those of us with big hands, and the newest low flow toilets don't provide a lot of water so wash quick!
  18. So you are not seeing any deflection or noting any bounce with 2by's spanning 6'?
  19. No one worries about something that takes so long for the cumulative effect to seen, especially when neither cause nor effect can actually be seen. This seems to hold true be it medical, environmental, political or whatever.
  20. Why not go diagonal above and below the center accent?
  21. I will try to remember to preface this with "A wise man once said," but I make no promises or royalty payments!
  22. http://www.certainteed.com/resources/RP ... nstall.pdf This contractors' guide only mentions their accesory shingles. Besides their Shadow Ridge 'tear apart' ridge shingles, they also detail the "Mountian Ridge" high profile hip/ridge shingle I've never seen yet.
  23. I like the idea of shutting off the gas in the case of over-firing, but the Watts installation manual still requires a pressure relief valve, though it does not appear to be attached directly to the heater. Is it possible to install a PRV in a some other location where proper drain is achievable (laundry room?), provided the other requirements for the drain/discharge tube are met?
  24. It comes down to did you have a contract with the client to find those kinds of problems?; and if you did, did you miss it?; and if you did miss it, did the client suffer an economic loss as a result? Some inspectors are advertising a $5000 home inspection that tests every switch, door, window etc, removes every cover removable, and documents every visible thing in the house. They never sell one, but the client reliazes that what they are getting isn't that!
  25. Originally posted by Jim Katen Wow! I had to look it up, but although most people consider pretty much any creepy-crawly a bug.....the exact definition of bug (or true -bug) is pretty limited. It never ceases to amaze me what I can learn on this forum.
