Mike Lamb
The paste is cracking off this 2 yr old steam boiler. It's right above the front burners and below the cast iron exchanger. Why is it there and is it a big deal that it's cracking and peeling off? Click to Enlarge 46.54 KB Click to Enlarge 46.98 KB
Jim Katen
Looks like furnace cement. It's like spackle for furnace's, boilers, & stoves. Every time I see it, it's hiding something bad.
Bill Kibbel
That's the front base panel where it meets the cast-iron section assembly. Sealant is required at that location, per the installation instructions, to keep "flue gas" from spilling out. The manufacturer of the boiler supplied boiler cement for that application and for other seals needed on installation. It's just a sloppy job. Weil McLain EG boiler?
