Jim Katen
Don't remember seeing these before. Couldn't reach this side of the attic due to vaulted ceilings and truss work. Click to Enlarge 96.01?KB Click to Enlarge 60.69?KB Looks like a basic, old fashioned vent jack. If there's no attic space in this area, they might have run an exhaust fan from a bathroom or kitchen to this spot. I have a vaulted ceiling above my kitchen and the range hood vents directly into a jack that's very much like that one.

Phillip
On one inspection I found a furnace and water heater vented into a vent like that.
Denray
Duh. I could see the two bath fan vents going up in the attic. Those just didn't look like they could allow much air flow, but really, color me duh.[:-paperba Thanks guys.
