John Dirks Jr
In 6 years of inspecting this is the first time I've seen this brand of NM cable. It was in a mid 70's townhome. It has copper conductors. Whats the story on this stuff? Download Attachment: P1350249.JPG 105.35 KB
Jim Katen
I don't know of any story. Phelps Dodge was a cable manufacturer. I see their cables several times a year, often with a light blue outer sheath. I can't recall seeing it in black before.

What was exceptionally unusual about this black stuff was the sheathing on the 14/3 cables. It was thick and very loosely wrapped as if it were a conduit of sorts rather than a shrink wrapped sheathing like on typical NM. That's whats in the picture. A 14/2 on the left and two 14/3's to the right.
Jim Port
Phelps Dodge was just another manufacturer of cables.
