Stephen Lagueux
Small town located 1 hour away from my place. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected by this tragedy where 400 tons of oil exploded and burned down entire blocks following the train wreck. Mark P
I heard the conductor parked the train for the night and then the train just rolled down hill into the town and crashed.
Stephen Lagueux
from what we know so far, a fire broke out in the engine compartment of the locomotive after the engineer had parked it for the night in another smaller town about 10 miles from Megantic. Speculation has it that the air brake released somehow and gravity led the train down the track. Witnesses say that the train was again on fire before it derailed. Over 30 buildings burned to the ground. Half of downtown gone in smoke. 13 confirmed dead and dozens still missing.
Jim Katen
Amazing. I guess I always thought that those brakes were fail safe.
