  1. Where's the picture, Matt??
  2. Gary, it was my understanding that people who live on golf courses are responsible for damage to their house if golf balls hit it. Supposed to carry insurance to cover it. Known hazard, etc. Perhaps I'm mis-informed??
  3. So, Mike. What's up there that you're feeling up, besides (well never mind)? Tactile sensation or burned hands. Hmm, that's sure a tough choice on a roof! I prefer the cheap batters type gloves for roof work. Keeps the heat off my hands.
  4. Gloves, Mike. Gloves!
  5. A lot of times, you don't even have to pull the screws to see the coils. Just pop the filter door, slide your camera thru the slot, turn it on, and shoot a little arc. Click to Enlarge 57.01 KB Especially helpful on those "A" coils with no front access. And you can usually see the blower fan (as John's pictures show) even if you can't get coil access.
  6. So, What? Do you think there's no rednecks or banjo players in Oregon? Obviously, there are!
  7. Aw, Brandon, you just have no sense of excellent redneck repairs. It wasn't leaking was it?
  8. Here's some info to help you. http://www.epa.gov/radon/pubs/consguid.html See the part about using the sump pit for a suction point. I'd think the sump pump discharge would need a backflow preventer but I'm not a mitigator. I'd guess this one is a sump pump pit and discharge line with a passive radon pipe installed but no pump or radon fan installed yet. Sealed cover would be to help reduce the radon entering the home.
  9. The test has about a 50% failure rate. Congratulations, John. Go get em and earn some money to pay you back for the education and certification.
  10. Chad: Some people just want to sit (stand) and watch life pass by. They need the guard rail to protect them from falling into life and actually living!
  11. Hollywood Ugly Bad Guy with those dark glasses and sneakers. Chair could use a coat of paint to protect it from alcohol/pee damage.
  12. Neal, you need a false thermostat for her to play with. Put the real one somewhere she won't notice it and let her play with the false thermostat all she wants.
  13. Regional terminology aside, I use both terms as in: There's a problem with "the correct regional term" (plain explanation). Have it fixed.
  14. Nah, he's just going to scare the hell out of them with that large blade!
  15. Brandon, Yes.
  16. Here's another obvious one. I knew it was time for a new "insurance supplied" roof right after I stood up off the ladder. Well, unless the seller already spent the insurance check! Click to Enlarge 73.54 KB Click to Enlarge 71.22 KB -
  17. Somebody's got way too much time on their hands. You ever think about writing a book?
  18. I agree that someone else's boiler plate is not good. But, after I've wrote about GFCI protection so many times, I finally got it the way I want it , saved it, and now use that boiler any time I need it.
  19. Kinda nice of someone to politely keep things tidy and sensible.

  21. I went to Carbonite when I drowned my main tablet PC last year. Once it was set up, it took about three days to (in the background when I was connected) back up all of the locations I specified on my computer. Since then it quietly (again, in the background) backs up changed files everytime I connect to the internet. I can tell what's backed up with the little green dots. Orange dots tell me they aren't backed up yet. But they will be the next time I connect. I've played with it a bit retrieving backed up files to this computer, retrieving files backed up from this computer onto another computer, playing lost password, etc. It works great for me. I've sent some of you who indicated interest in it an e-mail invitation because I can get a free month and so can you if you sign up for it. It's about 50 or 60 bucks a year for whatever you want to back up. I think my current backup is about 35 GB. After testing it, I just went ahead and signed up for two years. If you want the e-mail invitation but didn't get it, give me your e-mail address at erby@b4uclose.com. If you didn't want one but got it anyway, my apologies. It comes with a free trial to make sure you like it before you buy it. www.carbonite.com $60.00 a year for peace of mind. I was never good at remember to do the backup on my own. Now I don't have to be good at remembering this mundane but oh so important task. - Click to Enlarge 17.89 KB
  22. Spent Thursday afternoon listening to Dr. Joe talk about "Building Envelope – How tight is too tight" & "Ventilating a Tight Home", Great stuff. Certainly has an interesting presentation style. I liked his take on the difference between physicists and engineers. http://www.joelstiburek.com/ I've read a bunch of his stuff and some of what y'all had to say about his thoughts on building science. Glad I took the time!
  23. Tell her it's the wave of the future, Charlie. Enjoy your new career as a gigolo! I'd bet it is more fun than crawling around in stinky old houses attics and crawl spaces, but then again you'd still be ....... -
  24. Yup, customer gets the information they need!
