  1. Water will drain, but slowly and reluctantly with the sytem gurgling as it pulls air from other sources. I see that a lot around here in some of the newer developments (15 years newer??). Plumber just never went back and removed the cap after the pressure test.
  2. Doesn't a round meter can indicate a 60 amp service??
  3. Glad to see it stimulated some discussion and it did get Elliott Elliott's question answered.
  4. See pictures. House is served by 100 Amp main disconnect which then goes to a panel in the house. AC is served by fused disconnect fed directly from the meter???? Don't look right to me but no source. By golly though, the code guy inspected and passed it!! Your guru thoughts please. 5. Bain, PLEASE, let me know who it was? erby@b4uclose.com
  6. "Eat less, crap more" Gotta love it. Might want to add MOVE more. Glad to hear all those who are doing so well at losing it! Metaphorical? perhaps!
  7. Don't get stung! B Safe - B Sure - B 4 U Close - ASK 4 ME One of these days, I'll get around to a logo! Maybe something to do with a Bee?? Ya think!
  8. Apology accepted but not really felt necessary. Sharing and critiquing is what makes this board and each of us better. As I sit here in this parking lot in southwest Lexington between inspections, I'm reminded we still haven't gotten together over that cup of coffee we talked about months and months ago. Soon maybe??
  9. Reading Walter is what makes me comfortable in putting things like this in my report. There is only about two inches of insulation in the attic. I saw several piles of animal poop on top of the insulation in the attic. I'm not an animal poop expert so I don't know what kind it was, but the neighbor said she'd seen racoons entering the attic gable vents after climbing the tree next to the house. You should have: 1. The tree trimmed away from the house, 2. Screens installed on the attic vents to keep the racoons (and any other animals and birds) out, 3. The animal poop removed, 4. Additional insulation installed to help reduce your heating and cooling costs.
  10. I don't remember it all, but it applies. Boss asks his secretary if she would hav sex with him for a million dollars. Secretary says "Yes!" Boss then asks the secretary if she'd have sex with him for ten dollars. Secretary says "Hey, what do you think I am?" Boss says "We've already settled WHAT you are, now we are negotiating the price!"
  11. If the stuff don't stick to the wall, at least at the top and the bottom, it don't work worth a crap. How's this for a "minor" collapse about 5 years after the BDRY type system was installed along the bottom of the wall. 12. I've seen the carbon fiber repair once, and attended a brief presentation on it. Seems like it's a good idea and certainly cleaner than the steel I'beam or column reinforcement. If you want to see it in action, 1. Take five childrens building blocks stacked one on top of the other 2. Push on the middle block while holding the top block firmly in position. (The crack that opens up on the opposite side of the blocks simulates what's happening to a concrete block wall like that in the picture. 3. Take a strip of scotch tape as long as the building blocks are tall and apply it firmly down one side of the stack of blocks. This is the carbon fiber strip. 4. Push on the middle block while holding the top block firmly in position. 5. Doesn't move at the middle block crack, does it. That's a carbon fiber strip system in miniature. Of course, I don't think any of them are worth a damn thing unless you fix the pressure problem on the outside. And it doesn't stop water coming thru the wall.
  13. It's a float switch. When the water pushes that metal thingymadoo up, it turns the pump on. When the water no longer holds up the metal thingymadoo, it drops, shutting off the pump.
  14. It's fairly common around here to see one meter and two 200 amp panels fed from it. Both have a main breaker and neither is sub to the other. Woudn't guess that your's is either. One meter feeds one panel. Other meter feeds second panel. I don't see anything in your photos that would lead me to believe one (main) panel is servicing the other (sub) panel.

  16. From an e-mail newsletter I received today. ================= Changes to Canada's Radon Guideline Health Canada has proposed that the current guideline for exposure to radon gas be reduced from 800 to 200 becquerels per cubic metre. (200 bq/m3 = 5.4 pCi/l). The Federal Provincial Territorial Radiation Protection Committee (FPT RPC) appointed a Working Group to review this recommendation and report back on its findings. This review was completed in the fall of 2005 and supported Health Canada's proposal. The FPT RPC has requested that the proposed revision to the Canadian radon guideline and the associated Working Group report be made available for public comment. How Can I Comment on the Guideline? You can access our comment page from the report. It provides you with several options for contacting us. Please note that all comments must be received before June 22, 2006. 17. Two definites: 1. No signed agreement = no inspection. 2. No payment = no report.
  18. I guess I'll quit going when I figure out how to explain why someone elese could find this but that I missed it, without me getting in trouble. Haven't figured it out yet. Surprised me when the seller bellied down and followed me to see what I saw so she could fix it. Bet she wished she wore a dust mask. Very dry and dusty. 19. Interesting tactic. Write your own press release. Get published. May just have to try that.
  20. Wow! Kurt. Stumped me for a minute on figuring out which association had "that" in their code of ethics. Didn't believe it until I actually saw it on their website. Guess I just don't think of that one to often.
  21. Kurt, Don't let too many of them boys with "heavy meals in drinking water" get in your pool. I also like your "no bullshit" style and try to emulate it though I occassionally still slip into "inspectorspeak."
  22. PDF Sample at http://b4uclose.tripod.com/Reports/consdraw.pdf Send me your e-mail address at erby@b4uclose.com and I'll send the Excel format version.
  23. They've done quite a bit of similar around the University of Kentucky Campus. They'll leave the old house and add a big vinyl box in the back yard, apartmentalize all of it, then lease it all out to college students. Some are screaming, some are sucking up the money.
  24. Some recent "couldn't see from the ground" stuff. Download Attachment: DSC06383.JPG 80.5 KB Why do they always crack on the topside. Download Attachment: DSC06710.JPG 38 KB No ceiling stains noted, yet.
  25. Paul said "some Realtors love them and I just can't understand why". It's easy to understand Paul. It's real hard, in most cases, to kill a deal in 30-45 minutes when you're mightily trying to keep the realtor happy by not saying anything.
