  2. I refuse to pull my hair out. I refuse to let my head explode. I look at this one kinda like I looked at college algebra. I don't need to fully understand it, I just need to pass the class to get my degree. In this case, I don't need to fully understand it (while I want to I also like having hair and an intact head). I just need to believe in Jim.
  3. Well, Mr. Smarty Pants Phillip. Exactly what qualifications do you have regarding your expertise in moonshine?? And is the IRS aware of the activities you engaged in to obtain that expertise? And if you truly have that expertise, would you mind sending a sample of your work my way so I can sample your expertise. Please. Pretty please. Sugar on top!! If it's really good stuff, I promise not to proclaim your expertise from the mountaintop, but keep it quietly to myself as long as you keep sending samples. [:-party][:-party][:-party]
  4. While Brandon or Chad are more likely to be right, I'd rather believe Les's version.
  5. I can't even imagine what the owner had stored in the cellar on these shelves and they weren't there to ask. I'm glad I had my mask on. Image Insert: 44.94 KB
  6. "In the end, dirt wins!" How appropriate is that!
  7. And here's how you stick a drain into the drain pan in a brand new modular home! Image Insert: 39.61 KB Image Insert: 26.14 KB
  8. Kinda says it all, right there. Wonder how many of the legislators read that paper?? Whoops, that's not the capital paper. Searching the capital paper website, they haven't even addressed the issue.
  9. Nice shots, Ross. I really enjoyed the train shots.
  10. Mine is: I saw cracks in the brick veneer at the ______ I don't know if the cracks happened yesterday or 20 years ago. There is no easy way to tell how old the cracks are. Fix the crack(s) and watch to see if they crack again. If it cracks again, I recommend that you get a qualified brick mason (who utilizes the services of a licensed engineer to design repairs) to determine needed repairs & best repair methods, estimate costs, and to perform any repairs deemed necessary. -
  11. So dig out the yellow pages, make some calls, talk to some secretaries, and send some letters. Then stop by and visit them with a copy of your sample report and some business cards. Go for it. You'll get some. You won't get others. But if you aren't inspecting, you need to be marketing!
  12. Where are the home inspectors in San Jose that they weren't asked to cntribute to the article????
  13. Ain't all mine. Stole most of it from someone else somewhere sometime. -
  14. Here you go. If the response to an area of concern or a recommendation in my report is, “Well, they didn't have that (or they didn't do that) when the house was built,â€
  15. Hmmm, wonder how that "tortious interference with business" would play out with a lawsuit against realtors who say bad things about good home inspectors to keep the client from using that inspector. Evidence might be kinda scarce though. Who knows?
  16. Sometimes you just get lucky and they split on the top and only spill sewer gas. Image Insert: 43.84 KB
  17. I'd like to know where that reduction in Kentucky Inspectors is. Before we started the licensing process, we were able to document about 350-400 inspectors inspecting in Kentucky. Right now, there are 390 licensed inspectors. Reduction?? I think not. Just about the same level if not the same inspectors. Lots going out and lots coming in. And of course the Sibcy Cline realtor refers them. Tell's me they are on the Sibcy Cline pay to play list. A few thousand to get in and a kickback (oops, I mean marketing fee) per inspection.
  18. More info on racking and manufacturer's warranty. http://www.gaf.com/Content/Documents/22850.pdf -
  19. Didn't really need a laugh, but dang, there's some good ones up there! This thread will have me going to bed in a good mood.
  20. "further evaluation" "irregardless", I agree with Danny Masterson's statement regarding "irregardless".
  21. Maybe this will help answer the question. http://b4uclose.tripod.com/cockamamieph ... -attic?i=3
  22. Just make sure those ridge vent end caps Image Insert: 44.5 KB are in place to prevent this. http://b4uclose.tripod.com/cockamamieph ... ic?i=0&s=1
  23. I did this one the other day that collected all the rainwater into a cistern under the garage. The cistern was under the complete two car garage. A concrete block wall split the cistern in half from side to side. All the rainwater went into the rear half and filtered thru the concrete block wall into the front half where the pump system picked it up and delivered it to the pressure tank/water system. BUT, the greywater just went down over the hill. Image Insert: 53.96 KB Image Insert: 24.35 KB Image Insert: 31.72 KB The white pipe in the third photo is the gutter dump from the front of the house/garage into the rear half of the cistern. Image Insert: 40.37 KB I see a bit of cisterns but this is the first one I've seen that used a concrete block wall as the filter!!
  24. If I was a betting person, I'd bet on backfeed thru the washing machine mixing valve.
  25. The instructions from the manufacturer that I read specified "asphalt plastic cement". Craig, you should have all the info you need to request the sealing be done "per the manufacturer's instructions", not the inspector's findings.
