  1. What a crock. Kentucky moved up in the ranking by "adding" stuff. Bull. It was all there when the law was passed 2 1/2 years ago. Actually issuing licenses started as of 7-1-06. As of 1-4-07 we're up to 302 licensed inspectors. Two that I pesonally know of are already back out of business. Wouldn't surprise me that more were out. Ain't easy being a hick redneck HI.[:-slaphap
  2. Dear James, Please be aware that in THIS world, a duck is called simply "Les". Sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself![:-slaphap[:-slaphap[:-slaphap
  3. Thanks Dom. As I read further down the list of active topics, I saw the instructions for loading with Firefox but you beat me to it. I appreciate the help.
  4. What can I say. They were idiots but they are not alone. I found a CPVC hot water pipe yesterday supported at proper distances along it's length (about 20' worth) by being tied to a run of non-metallic sheathed cable using a small piece of wire.
  5. OK, I won't ask about no bedrooms in the house. But you could explain the lack of a bathroom in the bunkhouse? Bet if you searched your main memory, you'd find that you tripped over the old steps for a week or so to. Here's a neat link about muscle memory and heavy equipment: http://www.simlog.com/muscle-memory.html
  6. What's really frustrating is that you tell the buyer about it, they choose to do nothing, and then someone gets hurt. Did a new house today that had a set of stairs to the second floor, first (bottom) step - 9 1/4", intermediate steps - 7 5/8", top step - 6 inches. tread depth - 8" Go figure!!! You can lead a buyer to the code, but you can't enforce it. Each person gets to chose the level of risk they want to live with.
  7. I see this a lot around here too! Of course, if you look close, sometimes there's a minor problem that has nothing to do with the shingles. Download Attachment: DSC09707.JPG 70.66 KB
  8. That little yeller "World's Greatest Multi-Use Ladder" hasn't offered me a bit of trouble in the five years I've been using it on about 95% of my inspections. The other 5% I've had to pull out the LG. Of course they are NOT left exposed to weather (well, other than when I'm inspecting in the snow and rain), so maybe that's helped keep trouble away. I bought the WGMUL at Wal-Mart back then for $96.00. Like some of y'all I'm just to dang lazy to do that "hop" into the attic when I can climb right up there with my ladder. Download Attachment: Big One / little one 52.05 KB Don't often make copies when I resize using the Powertoys Image Resizer. Dang thing adds parentheses & spaces when it does copies. Hafta remember that.
  9. I haven't done it on my site yet, but it ain't any different than linking a JPG or PDF File on your website. Upload it to the site, provide a clickable link to get to it just like you would with a picture or PDF file. Done. The viewers computer handles opening the necessary program to pay the video. Need more, call me.
  10. In large builder companies, the builder's name doesn't matter. Who is the builder's field superintendent. Is he doing is job. Who are the subs. Are they doing their jobs. I've seen fine homes and bad homes with the same builder's name on them. Different field superintendents and subs.
  11. Just a thought: A lot if people won't open an Office Document or Spreadsheet because of the virus possibilities thru macros.
  12. Speaking of bad floor laminate!!! Download Attachment: DSC08244.JPG 141.28 KB
  13. Chad, Click on the help icon and then search for "keyboard shortcuts". You'll find a ton of them. However, remember that WORD is a WORD PROCESSING program. You'd be far far better off with a DATA PROCESSING program like Filemaker. $299.00 for the full version at: http://www.filemaker.com/products/index.html You can then not only type your reports, but keep your data readily organized and available in searchable or sortable format. You have to learn a program either way. Learn one that will benefit you the most in the long run. Talk with Kurt. You won't regret it.
  14. The copper can be easily observed on the neutral bus bar!! You keep using that and I'm afraid I just may NEVER get that cup of coffee! Rich, It is meant to be used for wire gauge, though it is similar to the one for sheet metal. See: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/pr ... 1=Gages%2C
  15. Bill, How dare you mess with my kumquat and change it into an apple. Next time, leave my kumquat alone and pluck your own apples. Download Attachment: Kumquats in nature 6.98 KB I put a lot of work into my kumquat bush so that it produces good kumquats. Then you come along and callously change one of my kumquats into a common apple. Oh the shame of it!!![:-slaphap[:-slaphap[:-slaphap
  16. The flat roof house in my example did NOT have eaves, rakes, soffits, etc. When the pitch went up, the eaves, rakes, soffits, etc, went out. That increased the square footage (or footprint of the roof. That increased square footage catches more rain. That's all my picture showed.!!! When it was altered, those were conveniently left off. 18. As a general rule, serious upgrades or remodels require updating everything to current code complete with permits, inspections, etc. The only way to know for sure on your question for YOUR location is to contact the AHJ or local code guys.
  19. I don't go into them very far. My big butt gets in the way and I can't close the door!!! [:-drunk][:-drunk][:-drunk]
  20. For CharlieB, Chad, Jesse & Charlie: See photo. Download Attachment: flatpitch.jpg 58.39 KB Kurt. I googled and googled, but I couldn't find any of them funky tilting square inch tubes. You're on your own.
  21. I'm done with this anal retentive stuff.[:-paperba Charlie, Go see a math wiz. Ya know, like Kurt who likes to calculate volume on weekends and holidays.[:-graduat[:-graduat
  22. Well, I've told you my story and I'm sticking to it. None of those glass tubes disappear, they just pivot to stay vertical. Well, unless you get really steep, but not on a 4/12 pitch.
  23. Well now, I still think it does. Remember we're talking a simple two slope roof, front and back. Rain is measured by the cubic inch. If you have a square inch tube and it fills up with two inches of rain, the weather guy says we have had two inches of rain. Let's take one slope and lay it down flat. Cover it with square inch glass tubes hinged at the bottom to pivot so they are always pointing straight up. Now raise one end. The tubes pivot slightly to stay vertical but I don't think any of those square inches disappear??? Do they??? Hell, I don't know. It makes my head hurt just to think about such anal retentive stuff.
  24. Well, dammit. It made sense when I said it. Now I'll have to think about it some more.
  25. 810.3896104 gallons on a 1,300 square foot flat roof per inch of rain. 144 cubic inches of water per square foot for each inch of rain. 231 cubic inches of water per gallon. Start raising the pitch and the roof square footage goes up as does the amount of the water. But it gets beyond my capacity (and interest) to calculate the total square foot of roof on a 1,300 square foot ranch with a 4/12 pitch.
