  1. Send me 3k and I'll go out in my front yard and scream great things about you. Seriously though, me thinks you can find much better ways to burn 3k. Yelp, like all other review based sites are only as good as the reviews on them.
  2. Switch the hinges to the other side of the gate. Bingo.
  3. Not around here. Same crap, just more of it.
  4. No way to prove the data is accurate and up to date. People by Great Stuff and Insulation every day of the week.
  5. Better late than never. []
  6. Whether you buy this one or the next, arm yourself with a good home inspector. What gets me the most about your post from your report is that this 1963 house didn't have anything 'major'. In 9 years of inspecting, I don't recall ever inspecting anything older than 20 years and not finding at least one major issue. Start reading sample reports from inspector websites, anywhere in the country. In just a day's time, you'll learn how to recognize the better reports. You don't have to be an inspector to see the signs. After that, get sample reports from inspectors in your area, then choose. If they don't have a sample report, keep looking. Better reports don't always mean better inspectors but they generally do. Some of the best reports I've ever seen are from members of this forum, including some that have posted on this thread of yours. Looking for a good inspector is like looking for a good house. They're all different. You have to work at it to learn which are the best. Marc If the inspector is half-ass honest this is great advice. However, I've got a few guys locally that have the most bullshit ridden sample reports you've ever seen. The homes main picture is a 10-15 yr old house 500k house. The house has EVERYTHING wrong you can think of. K&T wiring, massive termite damage in the crawl space, cracks in the basement, etc. The took every problem you could think of and put in one report.
  7. The woodworker in me can see where someone (not a professional mason) would call a veneer a thin top layer. I call typical brick walls constructed today a veneered wall.
  8. Give em' hell Gary [:-dev3]
  9. How do you know you missed an active leak? Sounds like the others dude's definitions of a active leak and yours are two different things. Who knows, he could have called all the old staining leaks. I've been using a Fluke IR for about a year. Taking a six thousand dollar IR camera into the spots I go into an attic won't happen.
  10. Kids can't reach a water heater flue pipe.
  11. How old is the house? I was under the impression that it's pretty much all synthetic used these days.
  12. -In this case, I suspect that the real estate agent is upset because he's also the owner/flipper of the property. I doubt that he gives a rat's ass about standards, codes, or what Rhonda has to say.- I'll bet dollars to donuts Jim is spot on.
  13. Because saw blades are expensive.
  14. Surefire makes nice lights, but they are pricey.
  15. In Bain's first photo, with the lever "down" wouldn't that prevent the breaker from tripping? What is this device actually called anyway?
  16. Thanks John, No template on that one. I actually built it myself (hand coded with the Adobe CS5 software package Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, etc...) I'm actually about to launch a newer updated version. I decided to ditch Flash b/c of Apple products, and their lack of support of it. I can do just about the same thing with jquery, and it displays on mobile devices just fine. Should be up in a week or so.
  17. Maybe you've got a bunch of out out of work inspectors in the area checking your prices? Or that.
  18. I get 4-5 a week now, and hate it. People never give you enough info to begin to work up a price. Half the time they don't even provide a phone number. I reply and politely ask them to call me when they get a free minute so we can speak about their needs. 2/3 do not call. My guess is they mass email a bunch of guys, and the one who reply's with the cheapest price, that's who they call. It's really disheartening, you know these people are getting screwed by these do nothing inspectors. But then again, they are getting what they asked for.
  19. Just curious if anyone else is getting an abnormally larger group of price shoppers calling? I know there will always be that group of people, but it seems like they are the majority of the calls I receive now. Anyone else as fortunate as I?[!]
  20. Also, just a suggestion, but don't rename them the full address of the home.
  21. What possible problem/harm could it cause?
  22. They're pretty amazing creatures; but they've never learned to read English, so I'm certain they've never read the literature that warns that exposure to creosote can lead to cancer. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike Ha! Sometimes it feels like just about every chemical on this planet leads to cancer.
  23. I'm with you Kurt, now I must convince him of such.
  24. They're free, that's why he wants to use them. There also not going to be anywhere near the house (I'd guess 30 yrds or so away). It's a wooded fall off lot, and we're simply trying to level the back yard a bit. I'd never guess termites who be that attracted to those creosote soaked ties.
  25. In a few weeks, I'll be helping a friend build a small retaining wall out of RXR ties. Bout 3-4ft tall. I was hoping one of you fine gents might have a detail of a good drainage system. We (he) can't decide if we will use flex corrugated, or hardline PVC. Also, any tips for building a awesome, stand the test of time wall?
