  1. Don't use it in your car. What's the application? What's it serving? Could be a service connect, such as for A/C.
  2. The majority of power vents that I've encoutered have a switch installed before the thermostat to shut them off. Look around for one. Sometimes they are in the living space below.
  3. Yes, saw it twice last week.
  4. Looks like an electric heat source control. What happened when you turned it up?
  5. I looked up the AO Smith install guide for venting. It shows this arrangement for a manifold with multiple water heaters. The only mention of different sources (furnace, boiler, etc.) pertains to different fuels. This looks like a manifold.
  6. Is this a legal setup, the water heater flue is straight up into he boiler flue, which continues into the masonry chimney. Click to Enlarge 40.38 KB
  7. These are the things that make our job worthwhile and exciting.
  8. Should we close the windows then? Perhaps that will solve the problem. I'm laughing.
  9. I'll make a single comment. Don't post fees on your web site, it may prevent a client from calling, not to mention that fees are often adjusted relative to an individual builiding. I have often had a client call who has seen my web site it and it gives me the opportunity to connect on a more personal level. It works and I know that from personal experience.
  10. I have also heard the same. Really does not make sense.
  11. I would agree with that. I like the time to clock reference. I always try and consider the skill set of the client as well. I had a client in a 3.5 mil. home ask me how they would change the sump pump. I told them how I would do it. All they need is a phone.
  12. Most of the testing methods I've been made aware of are full of confusing information and results, but I believe the testing is based on spore counts outside the building vs inside and the type of mold present. A real baseline would be how an individual is affected by the mold. It could make you miserable while at the same time I remain unaffected.
  13. I like 3D as it's very easy to manipulate on the fly. You can make changes to the forms while actually processing a report. You can caption and also insert text on the photos along with arrows, boxes, circles, etc. Over the years I have modified the text entries and added about 75% of my own content and changed much that was there. Scott, when I upgraded my PC 3D only charged me for an upgrade while giving me a disc of the latest version, as long as your original is registered with them. Much cheaper than starting new.
  14. That's a roof vent meant for a pitched roof and it has a flange inside. That may keep out the water but probably not snow melt, if you get snow, which is uncommon in GA.
  15. Yes, I meant cone shaped. I shouldn't have had all that cough syrup for breakfast.

    Roof type

What is the name for a roof shaped like and inverted cone?
  17. It might work but it's butt ugly.
  18. I hope they get their money back.
  19. It has to meet the 3' rule before you even get to the 2' rule. Yeah
  20. Judging by the stains on the floor and wall it looks like a lot of near misses. "I you can p--s over this line join the fire department." Latrine humor.
  21. It's "Screw yous guys"
  22. Could be new thinking on the building envelope. It may be more beneficial to include the attic in the conditioned space to avoid the problems associated with them, one being a heat source in the attic. If the exposed paper is a problem it could be covered to improve the fire rating. This is likely the shape of things to come. GAF (I think) has developed a roof panel system that does the same thing. This thinking is also being applied to crawlspaces.
  23. Pretty sure it's the same in Chicago, residential and commercial.
