  1. Odd thermostat with no fan settings. Don't know I've ever seen one. Most have a Heat / Off / Cool switch and a On / Auto switch for the fan. You sure yours doesn't have one?
  2. Where is the water going into the wall at. Up the roof above the end of the gutter or below. Doesn't look like the kick out flashing is installed properly. That could cause water to penetrate the wall below the gutter area. Click to Enlarge 33.27 KB If it's above the gutter, there's likely a problem with the step flashing between the roof and the wall.
  3. Every time I run into one of those "it's too small", "it's too hard", etc I think to myself that there's something in there that's going to come back and bite my butt if I don't get in there, gear up, go in and sure as hell, almost every damn time, there's something there that makes me glad I made the effort. 4. Kurt, I know you were going for simplicity. I was gigging you on "there". I'm with Bill. X is a fire hazard X is a shock hazard Dipshit stair nosing is a faceplant hazard. Now THAT is some funny stuff!
  5. If you're doing two tanks, do them in parallel not series.
  6. Their, There, They're Kurt. It'll be alright. Some people use one word to describe things, others use a few more, and there's always those who have to use lots of big words to describe simple things. [:-monkeyd[:-monkeyd[:-monkeyd

  8. Racoons in the attic?
  9. Prove it, Marc.
  10. So, if you're missing anchor bolts, what's the best way to secure the house to the foundation?
  11. Several years ago, I made a picnic table and benches out of untreated wood. Painted it with marine tung oil, once. Seems it lasted about 15 years before I finally threw it on the bonfire.
  12. Precut and shove them up through the soffit! Or, with all the work you're doing, you'll have the roof all torn up anyway. Cut a hole in the roof sheathing just above ceiling level. Precut and shove them through, patch the hole and put your new roof cover on.
  13. Only if you take it off in the first place!
  14. Uh, Chris. You do realize that Bain's post that you quoted is FIVE and a HALF years old, don't you?
  15. Probably hired one of those "black hat" SEO companies that promised to get him on page one of Google. Likely doesn't even know this post is here. Doesn't read like an Aussie to me!
  16. C'mon Jim Port, we're always seeing what great lengths people will go to in proving that they don't know what they're doing.
  17. Anybody else see a problem with the way this is wired. It's a 120 volt circuit for a radon fan. The neutral is hooked to the normal hot bars on the disconnect instead of a floating bus bar. The red wire is being used as a neutral wire. Click to Enlarge 72.11 KB
  18. I tell people a lot of things during the inspection, followed by putting it in writing in the report. I still get the occasional call back about "Why didn't you tell me?" followed by their embarrassment when I point out to them where it says that in the report and remind them of the analogy I used to explain it to them in person.
  19. That's a whole lot of pinhole repairs!
  20. Thanks, Jim. Appreciate it.
  21. Anybody know off the top of their head when the requirement for an electrical disconnect, at the electric water heater, when not in sight of the panel, went into effect?
  22. There's a difference between instructions and recommendations. Builders use that to their advantage.
  23. Kinda different and time consuming but a lot less mess!
  24. Ben, WRB (aka housewrap) wasn't required in Kentucky until, I believe, about 2006!
