  1. Throwing insults and put downs, in either direction, isn't helpful to a meaningful dialogue.
  2. Mike, did you ever try some voice recognition software to make it easier on those old hands. Won't do everything but it can take a good paragraph and put it on the screen for you. Might save you a bit of time but could save a great deal of wear and tear on the hands.
  3. The number one failure cause of the bottom of the siding I see around here is the failure to properly paint and seal the bottom of the wood panel and several inches of the backside. I've seen some done right, with the bottom and several inches up the back side properly sealed and painted, that are real old and still doing fine. I've seen some not done right, no paint or sealer on the bottom and several inches up the backside, that rot in just a couple of years. -
  4. It's targeted advertising based on the content of the posts above. Computer generated, it does happen in the blink of an eye. It's how TIJ pays the bills. It's not a popup. It just appears at the bottom of the posts for those who don't have Ad Block Plus installed. Marc, are you familiar with the Windows Snipping Tool. It comes preloaded. Lets you clip a picture of any part of your screen and save or copy it as a picture.
  5. There ARE rednecks in other countries too:
  6. The times I've seen it and been able to access the meal vent above the ceiling, the metal wasn't insulated. Insulating the metal stopped the problem.
  7. Here in central Kentucky, there's a lot of that in newer homes. Blast it out with a hammer. They also do that to the end trusses that already have sheathing on them to provide lift points.
  8. It's that looking out for each other that keeps us coming back here. The panel was installed about 15 years ago in a 97 year old house that had been rewired. Other than the foam, the panel had been fairly nicely done. I'd bet it wasn't the electrician that put it there. Report is long gone but I just told them: The foam sprayed inside the panel is a contaminant. I don't know if it's flammable or not but it should be removed. I'd bet it's not approved for contact with energized surfaces in an electrical panel.
  9. Good bet, John. It was white not the typical great stuff yellow and it was a few years old. In any case, it's a fine case of workmanship!
  10. Ah Kurt, you've noticed how very carefully they've scraped it off at the bottom of the panel to expose the hot wires to the breakers. VERY carefully done. Insert sarcasm emoticon here.

  13. You guess right, Morgan. The only thing I'm good at with those are removing them from willing participants (though the plural part of that went away about 35 years ago).
  14. I cleaned my wife's dryer once. Figured as long as I had it apart to replace the drum bearing, might just as well.
  15. Cistern.
  16. So I should just tell my clients with radon concerns that they just need to strip down and run around the house naked when they're home? [:-monkeyd[:-monkeyd[:-monkeyd
  17. Roll your windows down too! You're going to be sucking a lot of exhaust into the vehicle.
  18. Notice that he calls it a screening, not a measurement test. Bet he runs a CRM for an hour or two to get a radon reading and that's what he's passing off as an acceptable "screening". Unfortunately, "radon testers and mitigators (radon reduction contractors) are not licensed or regulated in Michigan. " Michigan Department of Environmental Quality - Radon He's shooting craps. I've done numerous tests where the levels were low for the first few hours and then went up to mitigation needed levels. Someone needs to edumakate the poor smuck on the liability he's setting himself up for. Bet he's not certified!
  19. Hell, Kurt, I haven't had any style since....well, never!
  20. Nope, not judging by the color, just the style! [:-monkeyd[:-monkeyd[:-monkeyd
  21. We had a topic on this a few years ago where it was melting the vinyl siding: https://www.inspectorsjournal.com/forum ... IC_ID=4223
  22. Marc's over thinking and the imaginative literary geniuses are showing their stuff.
  23. "There are two layers of roof shingles on the roof. Putting more than 1 roof cover on any building is dip squat moron shot, for more reasons than anyone would want to listen to or I'd want to talk about. When the current shingles are replaced, it will be necessary to remove all the shingles from the roof before installing new shingles." Sounds good to me!
