  1. Hey Paul, Good to see you on here. Ah, the great report creep! The insulation is installed with the vapor barrier exposed. While this is often done in new construction with the intention that the homeowner will finish the area, it is a fire hazard when left exposed. The vapor barrier is flammable and according to the manufacturer's warning label on the insulation, it needs to be covered with a fire rated material such as drywall. For fire safety, cover the insulation in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Fiberglass (batts) insulation is installed in the crawl space with the paper facing exposed. It is a fire hazard when left exposed and can trap moisture in the insulation. The vapor barrier is flammable and according to the manufacturer's label on the insulation, the vapor barrier should be installed against the floor. Have it removed and reinstalled in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. -

    CO mystery

So, whose operated a dishwasher in a vacant house and had it go boom from the hydrogen sulfide in the water heater? I've had the rotten egg smell from the faucets before but always ran a BUNCH of hot water before I ran the dishwasher.
  3. I've seen some uphill retrofits around here lately, particularly in crawl spaces, with a tiny hole drilled in the bottom of the low point and the state plumbing inspector has approved of this. Just FYI.

    Thank You!!

It's amazing what you can do with a little bit of knowledge. It's either a great success or a great screw up. Glad yours came out success!
  5. I would have quoted them the Mechanical section, not the Residential section that doesn't apply, due to the furnace located in the attic. (Last sentence of your code quote.)
  6. Pictures way too LARGE! Maybe reduce them for easier viewing?
  7. Y'all think you have it bad. Listen to this weather report from North Dakota!
  8. New guys on the board, educating themselves by reading old threads, replying without looking at the date. A couple of times, these old threads have sparked interesting new discussions. Lots of good info in those old threads.
  9. Put in one of these and then run it where you want it. https://www.acwholesalers.com/Little-Gi ... MwodFH4Ayw
  10. Maybe so, Marc. However, I get a lot of repeats from the same numbers.
  11. Remember, a lot of them are just employees trying to make a living, not a good choice of a way to do it but trying anyway. I just tell em, "Thanks, I'm not interested" and hang up. Then add their number to my DO NO ANSWER list as a telemarketer. I don't waste my time playing with them. Better things to do.
  12. Torpedo in the pouch. $35.00 laser level in the van, if I need it. I think I have a golf ball in the van too, someplace but not sure. Last time a realtor asked me if I had a marble, I asked "Why, did you lose yours?" Just a blank look in return.
  13. I'd be in and bet (just a little tiny bit) that Ben Hendricks and John Bain would be too.
  14. Dirt devil for the floor. Sheet for the clothes on the rack, if necessary.

    Boiler help

There's always a dillhole in the woodpile. Sometimes it's us. Sometimes it's not.
  16. www.codecheck.com/cc/ccimages/...fAge.pdf Do you have that complete link, Jim?
  17. Any of y'all ever seen a non-vented fireplace with a hole in the back like this one? Click to Enlarge 54.46 KB Click to Enlarge 45.16 KB
  18. Someplace in my files, I've got pictures of logs just like that. Been a long time ago, though. 8 - 9 years or so.
  19. Blow it up a bit Marc. The cut shingles are the ones on the left side, not the right side.
  20. What do you mean "flash"?
  21. Bob nailed it. the Spaniels who ended with "Goodnight Sweetheart Goodnight."
  22. Yeah, I'm not having much luck. Have to get a little bit more info. Genre, remembered lyrics, sex of band members, etc. That's just all the info I had tonight though. Thanks for the info. I'll ask more tomorrow.
  23. An elderly friend passed away. 90 something, good life.n A time that comes to us all sooner or later. Wife wants to play a particular song at the funeral in the next day or two. She can't remember much about it other than: "There is a song that was always the last song played at each performance by a band in the 1940's or 1950's and she thinks it was called Home Sweet Home". I can't find anything like that. Any buffs have an idea or suggestion.

    Trip log

I run into the lack of cell service fairly often when traveling in the boonies but find it odd that you run out of GPS. I thought that came from satellites? Mine does. The roads on the GPS unit don't always adequately reflect where I am but I've always got the latitude - longitude readings.
