  1. As some may remember, I tried the Krawler a few years ago at IW. The gut made one heck of a break. I don't do that many crawls to invest in one. Knee and elbow pads then tyvek -- I like the hood and boot vesrion but I buy what I can on Ebay. Steel toe boots Full face respirator mechanic's gloves I seldom crawl....I roll...one revolution and look around...next revolution... I carry an old camera, always start with a fresh set of batteries) in one hand and the ultrastinger in the other Voltage sniffer in my shirt pocket If I really need it, my leatherman is on my belt I leave the tyvek in the homeowner's trash can, seal both sides of the P100s with tape (clean crawlspace) or pitch them also, respirator in a poly bag, gloves in a separate poly bag. The gloves get thrown in my dirty wash (rags towels etc) and the respirator gets a good cleaning and loaded back in it's plastic box.
  2. I've read and follow the ASHI thread. I too believe Loden exposed the soft under belly of the beast. One more common man votes NO.
  3. The tape .......on the vent pipe is not listed for this use........
  4. Control for the Trap? Lovely place for it no matter what it is.
  5. I came back from Vegas at the same I left. Went on a 2 day church retreat that weekend and put on 4 lbs. Love the salt! It's gone and a couple others but no real progress. Headed to Memphis in a few weeks for a misssion trip. I never do good on those.
  6. Black slacks from Sam's. A quick slap from the hand and they look as fresh as when I put them on. Nothing but mud sticks to them. Laundered and starched button downs with a logo. Still looks good after a hot attic or when I peal the tyvek from a crawlspace. Of course, If I'd loose 20 lbs I wouldn't have to tuck my shirt in after a climb or a crawl. No plumber here.
  7. Depends on where the tap is. Not ever irrigation system has it's own meter. Where else would the BF go than on the house side of the meter?
  8. Was there a backflow preventer on the irrigation system and where was the irrigation water line tap in relation to the meter and the house?
  9. I have but one and only one comment. It is not bonded as required by the NEC. Time to finish my lunch and go make some $$
  10. Jim, The temperature is set, measured and controlled at the pool heater. It has a control panel for the owner to set the preferences. It is unlike some spas that have an air switch within reach of the water.
  11. You continue to make exaggerated assumptions. As to you discussion style, you seem to like to direct/control where the discussion should or should not go. In that spirit, this is my last post in this discussion. Go ahead, I would not want for you to not have the last word.
  12. In response to both of your posts, I agree to educate the client is good but the balance is not to cause fear in them (I am sure I do not have to pontificate on that). Recomended maintenance or upgrades are a good thing. Some of my favorite homes to be in are older homes that have been remodeled and updated to current technology. I wrote: "I reference today's standard. What can the impact in someone's life be. $$, safety or resale." You responded: "As for applying current code to an older building, I have dealt with this many times over the last several years. It has always resulted in the person making the asserion being wrong. Since it does not hold water. As an example any assertion to be logical can be extrapolated to the extreme and still be accurate. My question to you is should the pyramids be torn down since they do not meet standards of current code?" So.......Where is the fear you now refer to? Forgive my plain words but I follow the KISS philosophy.
  13. Now that the chest pounding is over. IMHO it's a disservice to not educate a home buyer about the limitations in a home. Our job is simple. Educate home buyers (and others), so they have the knowledge to keep their family as safe as possible. Physically and financially. One of my favorite excerpts from the IRC: "R101.3Purpose. The purpose of this code is to provide minimum requirements to safeguard the public safety, health and general welfare, through affordability, structural strength, means of egress facilities, stability, sanitation, light and ventilation, energy conservation and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment."
  14. Wow, I've never inspected one of those! I do however, inspect homes built before 1990. To follow your logic, I should not tell them that current safety standards (codes), require new homes to have GFCI protection. I would have to keep my mouth shut, or close my laptop, and tell them the house has everything it should to provide a safe a possible living environment. If you thing I'm wrong to tell people what THEY can do to make their home safer...............hold it, that's not what your saying is it? And, I've never said a seller must bring a home up to current standard. Give me more credit that that. Like most men I don't like being wrong.
  15. Like Marc, I reference today's standard. What can the impact in someone's life be. $$, safety or resale.
  16. Rude? I wouldn't say that. IMHO your remark was dead on and just my type of humor. Terse....concise
  17. Ouch, that should smart a bit.
  18. It will become a classic. Problem is, down here we find stuff like this in any price range down here. Check the roof photos I just posted. One more of this three month old house..... Click to Enlarge 22.4 KB

  20. I use a wonder bar. It's not that thin but it works well here in the south. I do have to be real careful on hot afternoons. It was 30 during this morning's inspection. No problems with that. I'll try the Red Devil when it warms up again.

  23. Correct. I made a quick call to confirm that is one of the defects. Marc, you don't. Only we in MS have someone stupid enough to to this. I'm taking a break from writing the report. I'm three hours into it.

  25. It's a slow day when it comes to this. Marc It is rather sad the amount of time spent on these forums. I'm on and off a few minutes at the time. And NO I will not say how many times a day I drop in. Broadband cards are a wonderful thing.
