  1. Ditto and Ditto... looks like early 1980's ???
  2. Well, CD book says first pair of numbers is year.. (You knew that already)... I see the '93' in the New York comment... Any other data available about the house? Photos? It's probably an early to mid 1990's unit Erby...
  3. Ditto "Loom'...
  4. Send a check to Jim Katen for the free advice.. I'm ditto... Be careful you do not undermine the foundation... the 'fines' in the soil at/under the foundation wall could migrate out into your drainage system, leading to undermining and damage/differential settlement to your foundation walls... Filter-fabric is a must here.. .as is clean gravel.... and ideally, you'd be going to 'new' drainage out front... get that line cam-scanned and find out what the terminus is.. you have your work cut out for you....!!
  5. Ya learn something every day... !
  6. My comment usually is: ".. Ma was right.. "Go to College , Robbit.. or ya gonna be diggin ditches for the rest of your life.. " Download Attachment: IMG_7055.JPG 66.72 KB
  7. I can attest to that! Bee's can ruin a roof-mount as well... I had that problem a few weeks ago.. gutters weren't cleaned in years and there were nests all over the place...
  8. Put this in your arsenal before you go in (in summer): "If a bee's nest blows up.. what I do then.?" (Happened to me)... The fact your destination did not have a proper access is a defect in itself... Fortunately for me, I was 100% Tyvek with gloves and a respirator.. and didn't get stung .. but I got a hell of a contusion on my hip on the way out...
  9. Ask someone on Thanksgiving cooking a turkey ... GFCI decides to quit... no turkey... Bad ju ju.. On another related topic, when I test-trip GFCIs in kitchens (with the 'test' button on the outlet), I also open the fridge to make sure the fridge is not GFCI protected... I've caught a few..
  10. You will never see it all man.. never... ! -Toilet installed 'in the hall' (twice) -Well (deep, lined with stone) 'in the kitchen' (1700's) -1950's bomb shelter (sloped tube roughly 15' deep to in-ground 'submarine' like unit that held about 10 people. .... . etc..
  11. to top it off, the masonry was no longer level at the 'primary transition' area, lime-based mortar... loose.. soot pocket at cellar was clogged with mortar, masony debris, etc,. etc.. This is the most-twisted i've ever seen a chimney in my 20+ years doing this..
  12. Going in 2 directions.. Download Attachment: IMG_4521.JPG 65.27 KB
  13. I'd say that delamination is secondary to the 'improper installation'.. most material manufacturer's rely on 'proper installation' first to defend their warranty...
  14. We see it a lot in Boston area... (Then again.. 'we go way back' around here anyways.. )
  15. I an all Corten corrugated steel house a number of years ago.. the material itself is very very admirable... the devil was in the details of fasteners and such...I've often thought that 'steel houses' are really the future..
  16. First question: "How long to you plan to live there" and "How old are you" (Kidding) Seriously, the best siding in my opinion is high-grade cedar wood shingles.. properly installed and NOT PAINTED... So what if the sun makes it look many different ways from different angles.. if you treat it with a preservative every 5-7 years or so, it's gonna last the rest of the life of the house...
  17. Hi Mike---that certainly looks like 'cast stone' (concrete) and in SERIOUS trouble brother.. 'Heads up'...
  18. I turn on nuttin. If the realtors want to do stuff, I warn them why I don't.. This policy has worked like a charm for over 20 years.. This includes sink risers, toilet shut-offs, valves, gas lines, pilot lights, etc.. There is already way too many legs on this profession and enough landmines involved.. you don't need to be creating landmines.
  19. the concentric knockouts may not 'sustain fault current' and the 'connection' could fail.. due to the inherent stamped-in weak-points.. They might not 'clear the fault'.. Right?
  20. I have folders of photos I took of 'good examples of work' and 'things'.. So folks understand.. (Insulation baffles, soffit vents, submersible pumps, proper wiring, etc). They have the phrase 'EXAMPLE' printed on them by me.. Proper flashing (base/counter), etc..
  21. I like it all except the lick-stick stone... it's clashing.. Sorry..
  22. Please junk those ladders ... The extra effort required to use a LG for the same job will give you a bit more exercise any way.. (that's fine with me)... Those ladders have an inherently bad name.. "Collapsible'..!!
  23. Almost looks like some sort of eel-grass product???
  24. Mike, if you ever get back there to see what is concealed, post it.. I'd love to see that..
