  1. Your chart shows a third degree burn can occur in 1-2 seconds if water temps are between 148 and 155 degrees. I'd never risk testing water temps that way. If I were you I wouldn't risk it either. The elderly and young children have a much slower reaction time. [:-thumbu]
  2. The crack is the same width top to bottom and there doesn't appear to be any movement vertically. Is it the result of an impact or framing faux pas that exerted a lot of pressure on the wall?
  3. No. It sounds like an aggregate failure. Any attempt at repair will be visible, temporary, and futile. New pops will appear at the end of every winter. The concrete batch plant may assume some responsibility depending on the age of the installation. If you're really into Whack-a-mole, Ardex makes one of the few viable options.
  4. Oof. Someone is getting fired.
  5. I don't use excel but my report pages look pretty much the same as yours. Here are a couple of screen shots of pages generated using Inspect Express- the software Mike Brown developed. It's a Word overlay so there must be a way to do it in Word. I can drag the photos anywhere but things get a little funky when trying to place a photo right at the top or bottom of a page. 6. For the record, I asked Les to prune this thread to avoid a conflict of interest created by me moderating the thread. I disagree with Les removing my initial response. In that post, I didn't attack anyone personally and my experience through contact with thousands of agents is that the VAST majority of them want something for their referrals. I'm not sure how inspectors deal with the inherent conflict of doing their job while weighing the ramifications of killing a deal and losing future income. If your business model relies largely or completely on referrals from agents, it is all but impossible that you're performing your duties completely in the client's best interest. That's my opinion. Until the last few years, TIJ has always been a place where people could gather and ask questions without fear of evisceration. I'm not sure what dynamic changed but I am fully committed to not being a part of that paradigm. That same dynamic has managed to drive away dozens and dozens of good members including the guy who started this forum.
  7. I also believe it's intended to b used on a rear vent appliance in a vertical position. But I found this as well https://i.ytimg.com/vi/O1o8XRLBJQo/0.jpg
  8. http://www.tools4flooring.com/crain-727 ... -1270.html They make one for carpet too. Here's the rub, neither of them fold. Get him a knife and a holster and save him the angst of a heavy folding knife that's hard to open and when finally opened, the blade will pull out during use.
  9. In my experience, none of the folding knives are good for everyday professional use.
  10. Yeah...it's a mess.
  11. They're pretty bad. If you're inclined, put a watermark on them with your name and send me the Hi-res versions-I'll use them in class. Chad@structuresmart.com
  12. I paid $729 for a package with a couple of cheap tripods, a case, some photo editing software, a battery charger and a two batteries... there was more but it was just a bunch of ephemera included to make the package look better. Most of the accessories won't ever be used but I was going to buy the case and spare battery anyway. Cameras ala carte hover in the $699 range.
  13. I've been asking myself why I really like it too. The camera isn't just good, it's bordering on incredible. It has excellent low light capabilities, it's fast and has great color. The phone is superb. iPhone users, don't take this wrong, but I can always tell when I'm talking to you because iPhone call quality just isn't good. This phone feels like it has true duplex and voice clarity is like when we were kids talking on a wall mount model. The display is excellent. It's as good, maybe better than the S6 Edge. The apps work fast as heck and without glitches- My Chase Bank app was a struggle for my last phone. On this phone, I can open the app using my finger print, take pictures of the front and back of the check and deposit the check in about a minute. The same process used to take about 5 minutes. The watermarks on the back of the check made the Samsung really struggle with focus. Not so with the Pixel XL. Voice to text actually works- it works well enough so that I'm not obsessing about what it thought I said because it types what I say. Battery life is between good and very good. Easily an all day battery. Buttons and controls are placed where you cannot accidentally move them. You can actually take the phone out of your pocket, check to see who's calling and return it your pocket without accidentally answering the call. No bloatware, no bloatware, no bloatware. Apps are right at the bottom, not in a separate folder. Swipe up from the bottom and all your apps appear. It's an awesome feature because I only need my essential apps on my home screen since it's so easy to get to the rest. Google organizes my photos and stores them so I'll never come close to using the 32gig of memory. Everything works.
  14. I break phones so I've had quite a few. I've had the string of Galaxy phones from Samsung but they haven't been durable and they're packed with bloatware that you cannot delete. The app Flipboard is what made me swear off Samsung and switch to Google's Pixel XL. Hands down, it is the best phone I've ever had. If you're in the market, it's a great tool.
  15. It looks like an overzealous application of boiler sealer. Were there any obvious past leaks? Vortices are created at the joints and elbows where dissolved air is liberated which then reacts with the sealant.
  16. That's exactly why I've refrained from comment.
  17. I ordered the camera from Beach. They notified me that it was shipped with a tracking number 15 minutes later.
  18. Yesterday, I shopped for a Sony RX100mIII for my wife. They're essentially the same price all over the internet except one place is $120 cheaper. I go to the website SLRDIRECT.com and look at the camera and by all appearances it's the same as what everyone else has. Today, I still hadn't received a confirmation email so I called them. 52 minutes on hold to speak with a rep. He finds my order and tells me I have to speak to someone else. 12 minutes more on hold. The guy answers the phone, he knows my name and has the order. He asks, "do you want a battery, charger and strap for the camera?" He goes on to explain that it's a camera only deal and that the "retail kit" is another $140. I argue a bit, he puts me on hold. I hang up. I call my bank and block the vendor. I query Google "is slrdirect.com a scam?" The return for the query is large and bad. Trust me. SLRDIRECT.COM is a scam bait and switch seller.
  19. Lack of discipline while it was growing up? Liberal colleges? Rich parents? Republican presidents? I give up. What's the punch line? (dry bearings)
  20. I think most people miss the intent of the headline- every year you spend in this house just seems like 500 years
  21. I just inspected a millennial mansion with X10. Double click to turn the lights on, then tap, tap, tap to raise the intensity. Then reverse the process to turn them off. It added an hour to my already long day inspecting a house with 20 rooms.
  22. I looked up a schematic for this yesterday. I didn't recognize the phase coupler as just a capacitor and I was curious what else was included in the small package. For those interested but not interested enough to click the link, 0.1 uF is the capacitor size listed. For an explanation including the math, http://www.laureanno.com/Coupler-and-Blockers.html

  24. What was the temperature when the product was installed? The blue foam, that's funky.
  25. I have LG front loaders. Lately they've been honing my skills with a Fluke multimeter. Victory is still mine.
